Danbury Titans News Release
It was a weekend full of highs and lows for the Danbury Titans who had games against the Brewster Bulldogs and the Port Huron Prowlers.
Already playing shorthanded due to call ups, the Titans would lose two more players to injury against Brewster as defensemen Frank Schumacher and Kory Helowka both went down with injuries. The night did not get any better as the Titans were outplayed the entire game by Brewster. Helowka and Brett Liscomb were the only players to tally for the Titans.
Saturday night featured a big game against the league-leading Port Huron Prowlers. Danbury was 0-3 against Port Huron this season. It would be a stiff test with only 10 skaters. Dr. Peter Maro, an orthodontist from Darien, would make the start for Danbury.
The teams skated to a 2-2 tie after two periods as John Scorcia and Mike Driscoll scored for the Titans. Driscoll's shorthanded goal late in the second was key. Another moment that happened which was key was Maro's penalty shot save against FHL leading scorer Ahmed Mahfouz.
In the third period the teams battled hard. Titans rookie Dan Loughlin scored just over halfway through the period to give the Danbury the lead for good. Peter Maro finished the game stopping 23 of 25 shots.
The Titans will be on the road Thursday and Friday in Dayton and Port Huron. They will return to Danbury to play the Brewster Bulldogs at the Danbury Ice Arena in what will be considered a home game for the Bulldogs. Puck drop for that contest will be 7:35 PM.
