JOHNSTOWN - The New Jersey Titans used a two-goal first period to defeat the Johnstown Tomahawks 4-1 Saturday night at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena.
New Jersey's captain and defenseman Pat Gazzillo opened the scoring early in the opening period. The goal, which was scored from center ice, was unassisted and Gazzillo's second of the season.
Raymond Brice increased the Titans' lead to 2-0 with his eighth goal of the year at the 18:53 mark of the first period. Bruno Birzitis was credited with the lone assist.
Brice found the back of the net once again later in the second period to give New Jersey a 3-0.
The Titans found the back of the net to increase their lead to 4-0 when Victor Ostling's slap shot slipped past Tomahawks goalie Ryan Glander early.
Casey Linkenheld would get the Tomahawks on the board with a short-handed marker unassisted but that would be the closest Johnstown would get as the Titans skated away with a 4-0 victory.
Glander stopped 25 of 29 New Jersey shots in the loss. Spencer Wright picked up his fourth win of the season for the Titans, stopping 29 shots.
The Tomahawks close out their weekend series against New Jersey with Scout Day and Indiana County Day on Sunday Nov. 22 at 3 p.m. at the War Memorial. For tickets, call 1-800-745-3000 or visit the War Memorial box office.
