Ottawa Titans News Release
Ottawa, ON - The Ottawa Titans (9-6) put an end to their inaugural homestand on Sunday, suffering a 5-2 loss to the Gateway Grizzles at Ottawa Stadium.
After a scoreless top half of the first, the Titans got the first two aboard for AJ Wright in the bottom half. The Titans third baseman ripped a JP Williams offering (win, 1-1) to the left side and was robbed of extra bases by Jay Prather. As the third baseman stepped on the bag to retire Jackie Urbaez, the throw tipped off the glove of the first baseman Clint Freeman and bounced to the right-field bullpen. Rodrigo Orozco made the turn around third and attempted to score, but was thrown out at the plate for the unconventional double play.
Evan Grills (loss, 1-1) took to the hill trying to replicate a masterful performance from Tuesday but was in tough early on as the bottom of the Grizzlies order got to the veteran lefty in the second. Jay Prather and Abdiel Diaz reached on singles with one out for Cam Touchette who looped a base hit into left to plate the opening run.
Josh Gouet and Breland Almadova drove in runs off Grills in the fourth to extend the Grizzlies' lead to 3-0.
Clay Fisher got the Titans on the board with his second two-run homer in as many days, taking advantage of a breaking ball up in the zone from Williams to cut the deficit to one in the bottom of the fifth.
The Grizzlies added two more insurance runs with tallies in the sixth and ninth to salvage the final game of the series.
With the loss, the Titans wrap up their inaugural homestand going 4-2 and fall to 0-3 with a chance to sweep an opponent.
After an off-day Monday, the Ottawa Titans start up another nine-game road trip with the first of three against the New York Boulders on Tuesday night in Pomona, New York. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 from Clover Stadium. The Titans return home on Friday, June 10 at 6:30 to take on the Empire State Greys.
