Cedar Rapids River Kings News Release
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA: Building upon 2012's inaugural season is the goal for the 2013 season for the Cedar Rapids Titans. That all starts with evaluating regional talent during the off season. The Titans announced Monday that the first open tryout for the 2013 team will take place on Saturday, October 6th and Sunday, October 7th. The tryout will take place at the Titan's multi-use sports facility, the Eastern Iowa Sports Complex located at 1100 N 18th Ave. in Hiawatha, IA. Registration and warm-up will begin at 2:00 pm with the tryout starting at 3:00 pm on Saturday. Tryouts will continue on Sunday beginning at 10:00 am and ending at 1:00 pm. All players trying out should be available both dates.
The registration fee to tryout is $65 (cash or credit card only) and includes a t-shirt. Housing is available for players traveling in from out of town at the Hometown Inn & Suites 3315 Southgate Ct SW in Cedar Rapids. The cost for housing is $25 per night and includes a continental breakfast.
Participants must be at least 18 years of age and be prepared to be evaluated in the following drills: 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle, bench press, four cone drill, standing broad jump, agility drills, position-specific drills and 7-on-7. Kickers will be evaluated on kickoff and field goal proficiency.
Like tryouts in 2012 the Titan's expect players from around the region to attend. In 2012 several players were added to the team's roster from open tryouts including former Iowa State alum WR Nick Campbell and University of Dubuque QB Colton Hansen. The tryout will give Titans head coach Kyle Moore Brown and general manager Chris Kokalis an opportunity to address the needs for the 2013 squad. "Obviously we want to build on the 2012 team. We saw some positives from last season but always have room for growth," said Kokalis. "This is an opportunity for anyone who has ever dreamed of playing professional football to come out and see if they have what it takes."
