Orlando Titans News Release

ORLANDO, Fla. (Dec. 16) -- In a move expected to help both teams, the Orlando Titans sent former Duke standout Matt Danowski and a conditional third round selection in the 2010 NLL Entry draft to Rochester in exchange for rising star Mat MacLeod.

One of the most talented young players from the Ontario Lacrosse Association, McLeod is entering his third season in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) after being drafted in the first round (8th pick overall) of the 2007 NLL Entry Draft.

He appeared in 11 games as a 19-year-old rookie, scoring seven goals and adding seven assists to account for 14 points. He also scooped up 32 loose balls. He was the NLL Rookie of the Week for his week 15 performance against Philadelphia when he scored two goals and added one assist. In his second season, he played in five games - contributing one assist and picking up 18 loose balls.

In three seasons with the Orangeville Northmen (2005-07), MacLeod recorded 93 goals and added 102 assists (195 points) in 79 games. His team won two Minto Cups - the Canadian National Championship of indoor lacrosse.

Danowski was a former first round pick of Colorado (seventh pick overall) in the 2008 NLL Entry Draft. He tallied 14 points (7 G, 7 A) in nine games of his rookie season in 2009. He was acquired by the Titans in an off-season trade for rights to Ryan Powell on July 9 of this year.

In announcing the trade, Orlando Titans head coach Ed Comeau noted that it was a trade of convenience that would help both teams and players. "Due to his professional work career, it would have been extremely difficult for Matt Danowski to commute to Orlando and play for the Titans this season. By trading him to Rochester, it will make much easier for him to continue his professional lacrosse career," Comeau said.

"But in trying to accommodate Matt, it was also important to the Titans to receive a player with comparable talents and we believe we accomplished that. Mat is a young, athletic player who we see as being able to contribute at both ends of the floor. He was instrumental in the two Minto Cups that his team won and we see Mat has having a very successful NLL career," Comeau added.
