FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The TinCaps came back from a 9-1 deficit and brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the 9th, but fell to the Lake County Captains, 10-7, Thursday at Parkview Field. Nate Freiman had four hits including a double.
Lake County pounded three home runs early in the game: a two-run blast by Roberto Perez in the top of the 1st to make it 3-0 and two-run shots by Chun Chen and Ben Carlson in the 3rd which made it 8-1. Lake County tacked on another in the 4th thanks to Bo Greenwell's RBI single, pushing the deficit to 9-1.
The TinCaps had a rally going in the 2nd, loading the bases with one out but they were only able to plate one run before a double play ended the inning.
In the 7th, Jeudy Valdez drilled a two-run homer to left to cut it to a 9-3 margin. Lake County scored a run in the top of the 9th to make it 10-3.
In the bottom of the 9th, Fort Wayne got it rolling again as Danny Payne doubled off the base of the left-field wall to put runners at second and third. An RBI groundout by Valdez was followed by an RBI infield single by Wande Olabisi which made it 10-5. Freiman smacked a double off the right-field wall to plate a run, then Jason Hagerty singled up the middle to cut it to a 10-7 margin. Edinson Rincon singled to left to bring the tying run to the plate, but Captains RHP Preston Guilmet struck out Rymer Liriano to end the game and pick up his first save.
TinCaps RHP Dexter Carter (1-4) took the loss while Lake County RHP Austin Adams (1-2) notched the win by working five strong innings.
The TinCaps have now lost four straight games, dropping 15-19. Lake County upped its record to 25-10.
