- FORCE ROOKIE BERGERON PROFILED IN SPORTS ILLUSTRATED: Georgia Force head coach Doug Plank praised rookie offensive specialist Troy Bergeron as if he was a longtime veteran in this week's Sports Illustrated. "Whatever happens, he doesn't let it affect him," said Plank. "He just keeps coming back. For a coach, he's a dream, because you can tell when you talk to him that he's trying to digest every word." The standout rookie, who never played college football, ranks third in the AFL with 22 touchdowns.

- ARE SAN JOSE & NEW ENGLAND ON PARALLEL TRACKS?: The defending ArenaBowl champion San Jose SaberCats have put together a four-game winning streak and are now tied with Los Angeles for first place in the Western Division. San Jose is attempting to win their third ArenaBowl championship in the last four years, which would duplicate the achievements of another pro football team -- the New England Patriots of the NFL, who have won three of the last four Super Bowls. In every year that New England has won the Super Bowl, San Jose has won the ArenaBowl. Will the pattern hold this year?

YEAR SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS ARENABOWL CHAMPIONS
2002 New England Patriots San Jose SaberCats
2003 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tampa Bay Storm

- af2 KICKS OFF SIXTH SEASON WITH INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR: arenafootball2 (af2), the minor league of Arena Football, kicks off its sixth season tonight with more international players competing than ever before. Forty-six international players have been cleared to play and af2 has adopted a new rule that allows teams to add a roster spot if it is for an international player.

af2 continued to stage international exhibition games during the preseason. For the second straight year, the Samurai Warriors, a team of all-stars from Japan, traveled to play the San Diego Riptide. The Central Valley Coyotes hosted the first-ever all-star team from New Zealand.
