Tim Matz Named Head Coach of the Cowlitz Black Bears

Tim Matz is the new head coach of the Cowlitz Black Bears. Matz is entering his 6th year as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Santa Ana College (Santa Ana, CA). In his five years at Santa Ana he has produced the Pitcher of the Year five times and won the conference championship five times.
"We're fortunate to secure a coach of Matz' stature," said Black Bears' general manager Grant Wilson. "Oregon coach George Horton was instrumental in helping us lure him to the Pacific Northwest," added Wilson. "Our fans are going to love Matz' style of baseball."
The Black Bears' head coaching position opened when Bryson LeBlanc took a full-time position at UC Riverside. LeBlanc served as head coach during the team's first two seasons in the West Coast League.
Matz played for the legendary Wally Kincaid at Cerritos College (CA.) where he was a member of the California State Champion as a sophomore. After Cerritos College Matz played for legendary coach Auggie Garrido at Cal St Fullerton. The Titans won the conference championship both years he was there, and Matz pitched in the College World Series as a senior.
"I'm extremely excited to have the opportunity to Coach the Cowlitz Black Bears," Matz said. "I'm looking forward to each player taking an active part in the community and encouraging the youth of the area to be involved with the Black Bears."
