Tigers Season Comes to An End

Troy, NY - The Tri-City ValleyCats defeated the Connecticut Tigers by the score of 6-5 Thursday night at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. With the ValleyCats win on Thursday night, they swept the Tigers 2-0 in the best of three semi-finals series and are heading to the New York-Penn League Championship Series for the second straight season. The NYPL Championship series will begin on Sunday between Tri-City and the winner of the other semi-finals series between Hudson Valley Renegades and State College Spikes.

Tri-City busted out to a 6-0 lead on Connecticut after the fourth inning. When it seemed as if all was lost for the Tigers, they continued to fight and scratch their way back into the game. The Tigers put together a four run sixth inning to cut the deficit to one run at 6-5. The inning was highlighted by CF Derek Hill's (1-4) two out two run single that put the fourth and fifth runs on the scoreboard for the Tigers.

Starter RHP Austin Pritcher (0-1) suffered the loss in game two for Connecticut. Prticher pitched 3.1 innings while giving up five runs on seven hits. RHP Gage Smith was the third pitcher of the game for the Tigers and the second reliever used. Smith pitched three scoreless innings while giving up just one hit and struck out two batters. Smith kept the Tigers in the game with his three scoreless innings of work.

T he Connecticut Tigers season might be over, but it was a historic season at Dodd Stadium. The home opener for the Tigers on June 18th marked the 20th Season celebration for the ballpark. On September 1st, the Connecticut Tigers clinched the postseason for the first time in their five year franchise history. The season might be over, but there is a lot to look back and reflect on.

The Connecticut Tigers are the Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play in the New York-Penn League. The Tigers are in their 5th season at Dodd Stadium. Tickets are now on sale!
