
Tide's training camp roster taking shape

Tide Signs Sixteen to Training Camp at Invitational (Upper Marlboro, Maryland) - The Chesapeake Tide wrapped up another successful tryout this past weekend. Around forty talented players from the Mid-Atlantic area attended the invitational tryout at the Tide's official practice site, the Owings Mills Sports Plex in Owings Mills, Maryland this past Saturday, December 9, 2007. Sixteen of those players were signed to the Tide's spring training camp at the close of the invitational, bringing the training camp roster to a total of 29 talented players.
Cap Poklemba, a kicker, comes to the Tide with the potential to make an immediate impact. A two-time Big East pre-season All-American, 2002 All Big East selection and five-time player of the week for Temple University, also ranks second in field goal percentage in the school's history. Poklemba graduated from McDonogh School and has stayed local to the area.
Two Towson State Graduates join the training camp roster. Brian Soler, a Toms River, New Jersey native who currently resides in Edgewood, Maryland and Daniel Szabo, a local football star from Baltimore. The offensive linemen each have presence on the field, measuring 6'6" and 6'5" respectively with 560 pounds between them.
Bringing some geographic diversity to this strongly local team is Isaac Warren, who hails from Gainesville, Florida. A standout for Florida A&M University, Warren currently resides in Waldorf.
Two Morgan State University graduates, Melvin Coleman and Jason Jackson, bring their talents to the Tide. Coleman was a 2000 Black College All-American as a defensive back, while Jackson, a running back, is a rookie to the pro game. The two former Bears both reign from the Tide's home in Prince Georges County.
Another Prince Georges county native, Jason Crawford joins Albert Jones as another former Terrapin added to the training camp roster. Crawford, a linebacker, currently resides in Forestville, Maryland.
Another pair of teammates, Leonard Ferguson and Tavis Laws from Shepherd University, was signed to training camp this past Saturday. Laws, a West Virginia native looks to fill the WR/RD/DB positions while teammate Ferguson, a contender for quarterback, joins the Tide as the Shepherd University record leader for longest touchdown pass in school's history.
A pair of rookies to the pro game; Anthony Hawkins, another quarterback, and Michael Kelley, a running back, will begin their pro experience with the Tide's inaugural training camp. Both are locals to the area, currently residing in Annapolis and Abingdon respectively.
Lawrence Hill and Orlando Magruder join the other Prince Georges county natives on the Tide's training camp roster. Hill, an Oxon Hill high school standout joins the Tide as another rookie to the pro game. Magruder brings a few years of pro experience to this new Tide team, with a two-year stint in the National Indoor Football League, as well as invites to both the Tennessee Titans and Pittsburg Steelers camp.
Brandon Jefferson, another Old Mill high school graduate, joins his former Patriot Jason Galloway to the training camp roster. Jefferson is a safety.
Joe Johnson and William Middleton, a defensive back, both reigning from Baltimore, signed to training camp this past weekend. Both graduated from the Mergenthaler Vocational Technical high school.
