August 19, 2008 - Toledo plated an unearned run in the top of the 11th inning as they edged the Tides 2-1 Tuesday night at Harbor Park.

With one out in the top of the 11th, Clete Thomas started the winning rally with a one-out walk from Norfolk reliever Fredy Deza (1-1). Thomas proceeded to steal second, and after a strikeout of Brent Clevlen, Jeff Larish lined a ball to Tides first baseman Mike Costanzo, who had the ball pop out of his glove and into shallow right field for an error. Thomas scored from second on the play, giving the Hens a 2-1 lead.

Freddie Bynum led off the bottom of the 11th inning with a double to right, but Francisco Cruceta retired the next three batters to end the threat and earn his first save of the season.

With the loss, Norfolk remained 5.5 games behind Durham in the IL South division, as the Bulls lost at Louisville Tuesday, 9-8.

Tides starter Andy Mitchell turned in another strong outing, as he yielded a run on three hits and five walks while striking out seven in seven innings of work. Jon Leicester followed with three scoreless innings, lowering his ERA in seven August games to 0.69.

Casey Fien (2-0) earned the win for the Mud Hens with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.

The Tides and Mud Hens will meet again on Wednesday night at Harbor Park, with first pitch slated for 7:15. Ryan Bukvich (8-2, 3.87) will take the mound for the Tides against 2003 NL Rookie of the Year Dontrelle Willis (2-1, 4.03).
