Chesapeake Tide News Release

(Upper Marlboro, Maryland) - The Chesapeake Tide, the newest professional indoor football team to the Mid-Atlantic area, is exerting maximum effort to retain the ties of being a truly community based team.

The newest leg of reaching out to the community is now going to encompass visiting hospitalized veterans, a dream enacted by Tide owner, Martin Johnson. Johnson has steered the team through all different faces of community involvement from adopting elementary schools, hosting a clothing drive, donating to Special Olympics and now making a pledge to visit hospitalized and recovering veterans on a regular basis.

Tide Players Ron Garner, Mike Kelley, Tavis Laws and Orlando Magruder helped to carry out this mission and scheduled their visit during National Salute Week, both to pay tribute and bring cheer to disabled veterans. The mission was successful as Johnson and the players handed out close to 200 valentines during their visit, which was held right after Valentines Day on February 15, 2007.

The Tide was hosted at the Baltimore VA Medical Center by Dallas Rennegar, VA Voluntary Service Specialist, and several members of the medical staff. Johnson certainly holds this mission close to his heart due to the fact that he not only supports the VA on the technical side but also in spirit due to his father's longstanding relationship with serving in the military.

Johnson realizes that not everyone is blessed with an actively visiting family and wants to use the Tide family to show support not only for the leaders in our community but for the leaders of our country.
