Chesapeake Tide News Release
(Upper Marlboro, Maryland) - Maryland's only professional indoor football team has signed an additional three players to the Chesapeake Tide spring 2007 training camp. Sammie Jenkins and Jason Galloway, two Maryland natives new to the professional game and Noble Jones, an Atlanta native with seven years of veteran experience in post-collegiate action, will join the Tide training camp roster.
The local area talent has already had a huge impact on this new team. Five of the six players signed to the Tide's spring training camp reign from the Maryland area. The Tide hopes that the local pride demonstrated at the last few tryouts will carry into the season and make the inaugural year a successful one.
"Myself, as well as the Tide coaching staff were pleased with the talent showcased at this past weekend's tryout. We had our largest turnout yet, and if this is any indication for the future of the program we are confident the Tide will bring quality indoor football to the Mid-Atlantic area," said Tide general manager Jeff Golas.
Yet another Prince George's County native, Sammie Jenkins brings talent and passion to his game. A local standout from District Heights, Maryland, Jenkins helped lead his Suitland High school team to their first ever County Championship in 1997, as well as an appearance in the Maryland 4A State Championship, the first in the school's history. As a senior captain, he led the team with 176 tackles and 2 sacks, helping his team repeat their past year's feat as county champions and state finalists.
Jenkins garnered many awards during his duration at Suitland High including, First Team All-County, First Team All-State, First Team All-League, Honorable mention All-Met and an invitation to the First Team Super 44 All-Star game.
He continued his career at Saint Augustine's College in Raleigh, North Carolina. As a freshman he was part of the team that reinstated football to the college and help carry them from a losing 1-9 season in 2002 to a winning 8-3 season in 2005. Jenkins' determination and perseverance will be a seamless addition to the Tide.
Athletic excellence helped keep this Anne Arundel native close to home. Football carried Jason Galloway from his exceptional tenure at Old Mill High school to the all-time leading receiver list for the Towson University Tigers.
"I'm really excited just to have another opportunity to play the sport I love, I'm excited about the new team and I can't wait to get started," said Galloway.
A three sport letter-winner for the Old Mill Patriots, Galloway graduated holding the record for catches, yards, interceptions and receiving yards. He also garnered first team All-State and first team All-County recognition as well as an invitation to the Super 44 All-Star team in 2001. In his senior season, Galloway recorded 40 catches for 707 yards and 12 touchdowns in only eight games.
Galloway excelled in more than just football, earning first team All-County honors (basketball & baseball) and first team All-State and All-Metro honors for baseball. He also played for Team Maryland in the Sunbelt Classic and was invited to the Crown All-Star game at Camden Yards.
Galloway continued his career at Towson University, recording 52 catches for 950 yards and six touchdowns in his senior season for the Tigers. He graduated as number 10 on the all-time leading receiver list with 129 catches for 2011 yards and 11 touchdowns.
When asked about what he'll bring to the Tide, Galloway replied, "I have a lot of game experience and athleticism. I think I'll bring a lot to the table and give all I got."
Noble Jones, a Georgia native, will bring maturity and veteran skill to the Tide with seven years of post-collegiate football experience. Jones attended Frederick Douglas High School in Atlanta, where he was a standout in both football and track. His talent and hard work paid off when he was awarded a football scholarship to Purdue University.
The 6'2", 255 lb Jones, graduated from Purdue University, where he was a 4-year letter-winner for the Boilermakers, receiving Academic All-Big Ten honors for each year during his four-year tenure.
Jones' post-collegiate football experience has kept him local to Maryland for the last seven years and he looks forward to continuing to represent the Maryland area.
"Competition, whether it is against myself, with my teammates, or against my opponents is what drives me to play this game," said Jones, "I feel I will bring a hard-work ethic, experience, and enthusiasm to the Tide."
The Chesapeake Tide is excited to extend invitations to hard-working, determined young athletes and hopes that the drive for excellence and ability to fight through challenges will help set the bar for the level of play expected in the future.
