Mahoning Valley Phantoms News Release
FRISCO, Texas (Tuesday, February 12, 2008) - The North American Hockey League announced Monday evening that Mahoning Valley Phantoms goaltender Jordan Tibbett earned an honorable mention for Player of the Week in the North Division.
In his first action since January 20, the Indianapolis native stopped 31 of the 32 shots he faced on Saturday evening, leading the Phantoms to a 4-1 win over the Marquette Rangers. The win stopped the Phantoms two-game losing streak, and cushioned their second place standing in the North.
"He came in on Saturday and gave us a chance to get back on track," said Phantoms head coach Bob Mainhardt. "It goes a long way in showing how much he's matured, having not played in a while, and then getting back in there and having his A-game ready."
The 18-year-old's seventh win of the season put a halt to the Phantoms' two-game losing streak, and cushioned their second place standing in the North to three points over rival Alpena.
Tibbett and the Phantoms (26-13-4, 56 points) are back in action this weekend when they play host to the Traverse City North Stars on Friday and Saturday. Game time is slated for 7:15 p.m. both nights at the Ice Zone in Boardman. Catch all the action live at www.mvpphantoms.com.
