Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
CRESTWOOD, IL - The Windy City ThunderBolts opened the Frontier League's second half with a series victory over the Normal CornBelters, winning 8-6 at Standard Bank Stadium Sunday evening.
The Bolts (26-28) wasted no time in jumping out to a lead. Tim Zier doubled in the first and scored on a sacrifice fly from Cody Keefer. Corey Bass singled and crossed the plate on a Ransom LaLonde double to make it 2-0.
The CornBelters (24-30) tied the score getting leadoff doubles in each of the next two innings. The runs scored on a sacrifice fly and an RBI groundout.
Keefer doubled in the bottom of the third and gave the ThunderBolts the lead for good when he scored on an error.
They added two more to take a 5-2 edge in the sixth inning. Keefer singled and LaLonde was hit by a pitch before Blair Beck came through with two outs, hitting a two-run single.
Again Normal fought back. An Aaron Dudley RBI single in the seventh made it 5-3 and they climbed to within one in the eighth when Dylan Kelly smashed his second home run of the year.
Windy City put the game away in the eighth, adding three more to their lead. Bass was hit by a pitch and Keefer singled. Both men scored on Taylor Smart's two-run double. Smart came home courtesy of a Larry Balkwill single to make the score 8-4.
The CornBelters had one more run in them but it fell short. After two walks, Nolan Meadows hit a two-run double, but was left at second base.
Clay Chapman improved to 6-3, picking up the win. He allowed three runs (two earned) in 6.2 innings. Chris Carmain (2-6) gave up seven runs (six earned) over seven-plus innings for the loss. Cameron Giannini recorded the final out for his seventh save.
The ThunderBolts welcome the Florence Freedom to town on Monday morning. The ballpark will be turned into a water park for Big Splash Day I presented by Pirate's Cay Indoor Water Park. Tyler Murphy (2-2, 3.40) will start for the Bolts against Florence's Cody Gray (2-1, 5.56). First pitch is scheduled for 10:35 and the game broadcast can be heard through wcthunderbolts.com.
