Thunderbirds Netminder Milic Named WHL Goaltender of the Month

June 1, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL) News Release

The Western Hockey League announced today that Seattle Thunderbirds netminder Thomas Milic has been named the WHL Goaltender of the Month for the month of May.

The 2022 NHL Draft prospect appeared in a League-high 14 games in May, posting a 2.26 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage as Seattle claimed a berth in the 2022 WHL Championship series.

Milic, who hails from Coquitlam, B.C., collected eight wins for the Thunderbirds in May including a pair of Game 7 victories away from home.

He turned aside 33 shots Tuesday, May 17 as Seattle won its Second Round series in a seventh and deciding game at Portland before providing a duplicate effort two weeks later in Kamloops as the Thunderbirds claimed their third Western Conference Championship in the past seven seasons.

The 19-year-old earned one shutout in May, also away from home, stopping all 28 shots he faced Wednesday, May 11 in a victory over the Winterhawks.

The 6-foot-0, 170-pound puck-stopper is ranked #28 among North American Goaltenders by NHL Central Scouting ahead of the 2022 NHL Draft, slated for July 7-8 in Montreal, Que.

He was originally selected by Seattle in the third round of the 2018 WHL Draft. In 77 career WHL regular season and playoff appearances, Milic holds a 45-25-4-2 record, a 2.42 goals-against average, .915 save percentage and six shutouts.

Milic and the Seattle Thunderbirds open the 2022 WHL Championship on the road versus the Edmonton Oil Kings. Game 1 is scheduled for Friday, June 3 (7:00 p.m. MT, Rogers Place).
