August 6, 2004 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF)
Rockford Thunder News Release
The Texas Thunder won both games on Thursday against the Arizona Heat in the double header. The Thunder had no problem in the first game as they broke out the bats winning 6-0. In the second game Thunder found them again in the nick of time to pull out a win 2-1.
In game one the action started in the second inning when Julie Brooks (Rutgers) came in to pinch-hit and went yard for the grand slam to make the score 4-0, scoring Clare Burnum (Organ State), Stephanie Ramos (UCLA), and Amanda Buchholz (University of Nebraska). Thunder did not stop there, in the fifth inning an RBI from Karrie Rider (Mississippi State) scored Erin Evans (University of Oklahoma), and another RBI from Ryan Realmuto (Oklahoma State) scored Elizabeth Bouck (DePaul) to make the game 6-0. This shutout win takes Peaches James' (Big XII Player of the Year / University of Nebraska) record to 11-2 on the season. Peaches is tied for the league lead in wins at 11 and leads the league in ERA with an amazing 0.67 ERA. WOW!!!
In game two Texas Thunder had trouble finding their bats thanks to some great pitching by Danielle Henderson of the Heat, but regained them in the sixth, when Kristen Zaleski (Texas State) ripped a RBI to score Erin Evans to tie the score at 1 all. Ryan Realmuto, then hit the game winning RBI to score Elizabeth Bouck to take the lead 2-1. Thunder went on to hold them for the win, improving their league leading record to 33-14, and helping Lindsay Chouinard (DePaul) to improve her record to 9-5 on the season.
