Thunder signs WR Velazquez

FRISCO, Tex. (February 5, 2008) - Former Plano East wide receiver Pierre Velazquez has signed with the Frisco Thunder, head coach Troy Esprit announced today.

Velazquez comes to the Thunder after a season with the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgs of af2, where he caught 60 passes for 674 yards and eight touchdowns in 11 games. He had a nine-catch, 115-yard and three touchdown night in Oklahoma's second game of the season, a 76-42 rout of the Corpus Christi Sharks. Velazquez also returned a kickoff for a touchdown in that 2007 season.

At Plano East, Velazquez was District 9-5A offensive player of the year and was part of the Panthers' area finalist team.

"Pierre brings speed and youth to the wide receiver position," Esprit said.

Velazquez is the Thunder's second Plano East alumni pre-season signee, joining defensive back Chris Johnson.

The Thunder opens training camp on Saturday, February 16.

A playoff team its expansion season, the Thunder hosts the opening game of the 2008 Intense Football League season on Saturday, March 1st at 6 p.m. against the San Angelo Stampede Express.
