Trenton Thunder News Release
Your Trenton Thunder shut out the Aberdeen IronBirds 3 - 0 on Tuesday night at Trenton Thunder Ballpark.
The Thunder set the tone early in the bottom of the first inning. Cy Turner and Daniel Murillo kicked things off with back-to-back singles, followed by a walk to Louis Percival to load the bases. AJ Swader then came through with a single up the middle to drive in both Turner and Murillo, giving Trenton an immediate 2 - 0 lead.
Trenton starter Billy Morris earned the win (3 - 1), delivering six scoreless innings. Aberdeen threatened in the fifth with consecutive singles by CJ Dean and Luis De La Cruz, but Morris escaped the jam unscathed. IronBirds starter Josh Milleville took the loss (0 - 2).
The Thunder added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. Michael Whooley singled, stole second, and advanced to third before Dean O'Neill plated him with an RBI double to left-center field, extending the lead to 3 - 0.
Trenton's bullpen closed out the shutout across the final three innings. Justin Gay took over in the seventh, getting help from an inning-ending double play turned by center fielder Cy Turner. Joe Colucci navigated through a hit and a walk in the eighth, and Owen Stewart worked around a ninth-inning walk to strike out the final batter, earning his first save of the season.
