Altoona, PA - Altoona smacked three home runs in earning a series split with a 6-4 win in game two of the ELCS Wednesday night. A late Thunder rally came up short in the eighth inning with back-to-back homeruns to pull to within one. The series now shifts to Trenton on Thursday tied at 1-1 in a best of five series.
Dan Brewer and Austin Romine hit back-to-back shots in the eighth to pull to within a 5-4 tally but the offense stalled with the potential tying and go-ahead runs aboard. Daniel Moskos earned the save for Altoona recording the final four outs to preserve the win for LHP Jeff Locke.
Altoona scored four runs in the second on one hit, a Jordy Mercer two-run home run, for an early 5-1 lead. The Curve's Josh Harrison also homered in the first inning and Mercer hit his second of the night off Josh Schmidt in the eighth inning for a 6-4 Curve lead.
Dellin Betances was roughed up for the first time this season allowing five runs in 5 2/3 innings pitched. Betances struck out seven and walked four in his second postseason outing. LHP Jeff Locke earned the win for Altoona in seven innings of work .Locke allowed two runs and struck out eight to even the series at 1-1.
Trailing 1-0 and 5-1 early, Austin Krum smacked an RBI double in the first and Justin Snyder lobbed a single in the fifth cutting the Thunder deficit to 5-2. Trenton out-hit Altoona 9-5 that included three hits from Krum.
