PORTLAND - The Portland Thunder have been assigned wide receivers Rashaad Carter and Nick Truesdell, head coach Andy Olson announced this morning.

The veteran tandem are the first free agent signings of the 2015-16 AFL off-season for the Thunder. Teams were allowed to begin signing players at 12:00AM ET (9:00PM PT), on the morning of November 5.

Truesdell and Carter join the Thunder, both for their third season in the AFL, having previously played for Olson in Spokane each of the last two seasons.

Carter (6-2, 210, Tusculum (TN)) tallied 141 receptions, for 1617 yards, and 29 touchdowns in 33 games for Spokane during the 2014 and 2015 AFL seasons. Rashaad was second in receiving for the Shock in 2014 (74 Rec, 780 Yds, 17 TD), and third (67 Rec, 837 Yds, 12 TD) in 2015.

"Rashaad is a very hard working, positive player that will bring consistency to our offense," Olson stated. "He is capable of breaking tackles and making big time plays for us in the clutch. He will play a large role in achieving our goals in 2016."

Tusculum College's all-time leader in receiving yards, Carter led the Pioneers with 1,056 receiving yards his senior year in 2011. Also a consensus Division II Pre-Season All-American the same year, Rashaad caught 70 passes and averaged 96 yards per game in 2011. After spending a year away from football in 2012, Carter signed a free agent deal with the Baltimore Ravens on May 13, 2013. Rashaad spent the entirety of the 2013 off-season with the Ravens before linking up with the Shock the following February.

Truesdell (6-7, 240, Cincinnati) has 112 receptions on his AFL resume, good for 1327 yards and 30 touchdowns in 24 appearances over the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Prior to joining the Shock in May of 2014, Nick spent parts of the 2014 IFL season playing for both the Colorado Ice and the Bemidji Axemen.

"We are extremely excited about adding Nick to our roster," Olson continued. "He is one of the most physically gifted players in the AFL. Having worked with him over the past two years, we will be able to hit the ground running, with him as a leader in the receiving corps."

With the Axemen, Truesdell recorded 28 receptions for 402 yards and nine touchdowns in seven games, earning the former Bearcat an invitation to mini-camp with the Green Bay Packers later that spring.
