Thunder Get Back on Board with 3-2 Victory

July 31, 2008 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF)
Rockford Thunder News Release

Savannah Brown drove in the game-winning run in the fifth inning, and Allison Kime gave up no hits between the second and sixth innings to earn her team-leading seventh win of the year for the Thunder.

Erin Evans went 1-for-2 for Rockford, and Lindsay Gardner batted 1-for-3 and scored in the game. Kristen Zaleski had four plate appearances, but ended the night 0-for-0 due to having walked all four times she went up to bat. She also drove in the second run of the game.

Rockford started the scoring early. In the top of the first, they got on board as Evans came around to score on an Amanda Williams sacrifice bunt attempt that drew the first of Akron's four errors.

Akron did all of their damage in the bottom of the first, which included Veronica Wootson's second home run in as many games and a Norelle Dickson run via a Kristen Butler double. Akron's bats would remain silent until the bottom of the seventh, when Angelena Mexicano hit a leadoff single.

Rockford would go on to score again in the third and fifth innings. Kristen Zaleski earned her sixth RBI on the season by walking with the based loaded in the Thunder third. Brown got the game-winner in the fifth, as she hit in Gardner with a two-out single to left field.

Kime (7-6) gave up two runs on four hits to take the win. The Racers' Angela Tincher (12-6) threw 160 pitches and took the loss. She has taken the decision in each game of the series so far, going 2-1. Tincher also pitched in three games in the previous series in Rockford.

Rockford will try to go for the series tie on Friday. That game will be televised on August 7 on Fox Sports and Comcast Sports channels. Check local listings to see if that game will be broadcast in your area.
