Thunder fall to Racers

Rockford Thunder News Release

Lindsay Gardner hit two runs batted in for the second night in a row, and Kristen Zaleski hit an RBI single in the top of the seventh, but the Rockford Thunder (14-20) lost to the Akron Racers (18-16) by one run for the second straight game, 4-3.

Akron led off the scoring in the bottom of the second, off of a Shannon Doepking double that scored India Chiles. Rockford came back the very next inning with Gardner's two-RBI single that scored Amanda Williams and Erin Evans.

Rockford kept the lead for a couple innings, until the Racers got two in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, the Racers got three straight hits, which gave them the lead and chased starter Serena Settlemier from the game.

The Thunder were able to tie the game back up at 3, thanks to Zaleski's single. They kept the game tied for all of a few minutes, though, as Veronica Wootson homered to left field to win the game for the Racers.

Settlemier threw four-plus innings for the Thunder, allowing three runs on seven hits. Cassidy Scoggins (3-6) took the loss in relief for Rockford. Angela Tincher (12-5) won for the second game in a row, this time after one scoreless inning of relief for the Racers. Angel Shamblin started for Akron, giving up three runs (one earned).

The Thunder and Racers will play the third game of the four-part series Thursday at 6:05 pm Central time.
