Thunder Fall in Nail-Biter
July 19, 2008 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF)
Rockford Thunder News Release
Serena Settlemier has thrown well in nearly all of her 2008 starts, but earned another hard luck loss Saturday in a 3-2 loss to the Washington Glory.
Settlemier (1-6) threw a complete game, giving up just seven hits - one less than league wins leader Sarah Pauly (10-2) gave up - and walked only three in the contest, but took her second loss of the series - both against Team NPF pitcher Pauly.
Rockford took charge early, as Erin Evans led off the game with her second home run in as many games for the Thunder. The Glory followed that up with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
Audrey Rendon took the lead right back from the defending league champion Thunder, as she drove in Sandy Vojik off of a single in the top of the second. The Thunder retained that lead uptil Oli Keohohou hit her league-leading ninth home run of 2008 in the bottom of the third inning to knot the score up at 2.
Washington scored the final run of the night in the bottom of the fifth when Catalina Morris hit a go-ahead double for her second RBI of the night.
Among the offensive highlights of the night, Stephanie Best and Rendon each batted 2-for-3, and Vojik went 1-for-2 with a stolen base. Kristen Zaleski also stole a base, moving into sole possession of second place in the NPF in that category.
Rockford will go for the series tie on Sunday night at 6:05 pm Central.
