
Thunder Drop Game One to Wings

Harlingen, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings defeated the McAllen Thunder in game one of the double-header by a score of 3-1 on Friday evening at Harlingen Field.
The WhiteWings were led by pitcher Coleman Stephens who tossed a complete game, seven inning effort allowing one run and punched out six in the victory.
McAllen got on the board first via Miguel Alfonzo's third homer of the season, and second as a member of the Thunder (16-31) and got them the early 1-0 in the second inning.
The WhiteWings (27-19) would tie up the game at one on a Ruddy Yan single, which allowed Rumolo Ruiz to score. Ruiz reached on a walk.
The WhiteWings would add two more runs in the sixth inning when Alfonzo Marquez reached on a single, then Leivi Ventura hit a double to score Marquez to make it 2-1 game. Ventura would score on Mario Mercedes single to make it a 3-1 game.
Alex Smith (1-1) was on the wrong end of the decision allowing three runs on eight hits and struck out three in six innings of work.
