Portland Thunder News Release
PORTLAND- The Portland Thunder have acquired rookie WR Trent Steelmen, announced Head Coach Mike Hohensee on Monday.
"Trent has a great mentality, and is a threat to defenses in several ways," stated Hohensee.
Steelman (6-0, 207, Army) will enter his first season in the Arena Football League and first in a Thunder uniform. Trent joins the Thunder following a tour of active duty with the Army at West Point's Camp Buckner.
The US Military Academy's 2012 Black Lion Award winner, Trent was a mainstay for the Black Knight's offense, appearing in 46 games over his four year collegiate career at the quarterback position. Steelman played in an option scheme at Army, using his versatility and elusiveness to set team records for total touchdowns (59) and rushing touchdowns (45), while ranking third all time in rushing yards (3320).
A native of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Trent was signed as an undrafted free agent in April, 2013 by the Baltimore Ravens. Steelman participated in offseason workouts and OTA's at both wide receiver and safety. Steelman has also worked out with the Denver Broncos.
