Portland Thunder News Release
PORTLAND - The Portland Thunder have been assigned veteran wide receiver and former AFL Rookie of the Year Jared Perry, head coach Mike Hohensee announced Monday afternoon.
"We're excited to pick up a player with championship experience," said Hohensee. "Jared is a veteran who's had success at a pair of great organizations in this league, and plays the receiver position with a very solid approach."
Jared was originally acquired on April 13, 2015, and was initially placed on the league's 'Refused to Report' list while arranging his move to Portland.
Perry (6-1, 180, Missouri), a three-year AFL veteran, joins the Thunder roster after successful stays with both the Arizona Rattlers and Chicago Rush. Perry was named AFL Rookie of the Year in 2012 when he registered 133 receptions for 1,811 yards and 31 touchdowns as a member of the Rush. His 1,811 yards was the second-most single-season receiving yards for a rookie receiver in AFL history.
Perry totaled 11 catches for 170 yards and one touchdown in two games for Arizona thus far this season. 2014 only saw Jared participate in two games for the Rattlers, where in the previous season, 2013, he posted 58 catches for 892 yards and 20 touchdowns.
At Missouri, Perry received accolades that included the 2008 Spring Team Most Improved Wide Receiver, 2006 Honorable Mention Freshman All-American by The Sporting News, 2006 Big 12 All-Freshman Team by The Sporting News, and 2006 Missouri Team Freshman of the Year. In his senior season, Perry posted career highs in receptions (46), yards (696) and touchdowns (6). His combined career totals at Missouri were 137 catches for 1,844 yards, and 13 touchdowns.
Perry also participated in multiple championship and bowl games which include the 2006 Sun Bowl, 2007 Big 12 Championship, 2007 Cotton Bowl, 2008 Big 12 Championship, 2008 Alamo Bowl, and 2009 Texas Bowl.
