June 29, 2022 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Washington Spirit News Release
The Washington Spirit will be well-represented at the 2022 ESPY Awards. Ashley Hatch, Aubrey Kingsbury and Trinity Rodman are all nominated for hardware at this summer's ceremony, ESPN announced this week.
Forward Ashley Hatch and goalkeeper Aubrey Kingsbury are both up for this year's Best NWSL Player award alongside OL Reign's Jess Fishlock and NJ/NY Gotham FC's Caprice Dydasco. Last season, Hatch tallied ten regular season goals and one postseason score en route to the league's Golden Boot award while Kingsbury notched her second consecutive Goalkeeper of the Year honor with seven clean sheets and 78 saves while averaging less than one goal against per game. Forward Trinity Rodman is nominated for Best Breakthrough Athlete with Olympic skier Eileen Gu, Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor and Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant. Rodman took home last season's Rookie of the Year award after scoring five regular season goals and one postseason goal on 29 shots on target.
You can vote for Ashley or Aubrey here and you can vote for Trinity here. The 2022 ESPY Awards will take place at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Wednesday, July 20, the day after Hatch, Kingsbury and Rodman are slated to return from competing with the USWNT at the CONCACAF Women's Championship in Monterrey.
The Spirit is currently preparing for three matches without its international players. Washington will travel to southern California to play San Diego Wave FC on Sunday, July 3 before hosting the Kansas City Current at Segra Field on Sunday, July 10 and the Orlando Pride at Audi Field on Sunday, July 17.
