CHICAGO - U.S. Women's National Team head coach Vlatko Andonovski has named Spirit players Mallory Pugh, Rose Lavelle and Andi Sullivan to the 28-player roster for the USA's January training camp in Tampa, Fla., from January 5-15.
Following the camp, Andonovski will name the 20-player roster for Olympic Qualifying.
Lavelle has become a staple in the USWNT squad following several breakout performances in 2019. Lavelle's proved to be world-class during the World Cup, as the midfielder appeared in six matches and scored three goals, including a crucial goal against the Netherlands in the final. In 2019, Lavelle was named to the FIFPro Women's Best XI, nominated for the Ballon d'Or, and nominated for 2019 U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year. Lavelle has made 38 appearances for the USWNT, scoring 10 goals.
Pugh has also earned a consistent spot on the USA roster, having made 62 appearances for the USWNT at just 21 years old, leading the Spirit in international caps. Pugh has seen regular action since the World Cup, scoring against the Korea Republic last October during the USA's victory tour. Pugh was recently named to The Guardian's Top 100 Female Footballers of 2019 list, earning the 71st spot.
Sullivan has enjoyed consistent call-ups to the national team following the World Cup and appointment of Andonovski as head coach. Sullivan has been a part of every camp called by Andonovski thus far, outside of the recent December Identification camp. Sullivan has made 15 appearances for the USA thus far in her career.
The USA will begin its quest to qualify for the 2020 Olympics when they take on Haiti on Tuesday, Jan. 28. The USA will then face Panama on Friday, Jan. 31 before finishing Group A play against Costa Rica on Monday, Feb. 3. All three group games will be played at BBVA Stadium in Houston, Texas.
