Three Right-Handed Pitchers Added to Marshals Staff

April 25, 2014 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL)
Texas Tomcats News Release

The Texas Marshals of the Texas Collegiate League have added three more right-handed pitchers to their 2014 staff. Alex Dandridge, Austin Hilton, and Joseph Herbert will join the Marshals pitching arsenal this summer.

"This is another group of right-handed pitchers that we think will help lead us to the playoffs this summer," stated Kenderick Moore, the Marshal's General Manager. "We've assembled a pretty talented group of arms, and if they can all stay healthy, we should have a solid pitching staff."

Alex Dandridge, a native of Arlington, Texas, is currently a sophomore at North Carolina Central University. Dandridge, who attended Mansfield Timberview High School, transferred to NCCU after spending one season at Clarendon Community College.

At Clarendon, Dandridge appeared in 13 games, making 12 starts, and finished with a 4-2 record. He struck out 29 batters in 42.1 innings of work.

Dandridge has made nine starts in 10 appearances to date this season for NCCU. He is 1-3 with a 5.09 ERA. Dandridge has compiled 34 strikeouts in 53 innings.

"Alex is a workhorse," stated Moore. "He's been a starter his whole collegiate career, so we'll look to keep him in that role as a part of our rotation this summer."

Austin Hilton, a native of Weatherford, Texas, is currently a sophomore at Northern Oklahoma College in Enid.

As a freshman, Hilton went 0-1 on the season and recorded 20 strikeouts in 26.1 innings. Hilton has appeared in seven games this season as a sophomore for the Jets and is currently 2-2 with a 5.03 ERA. He has 24 strikeouts in 34 innings of action.

"Austin is another guy who can either start or throw out of the bullpen," Moore commented. "He's seen a lot of game action in his first two collegiate seasons and will be able to use that experience moving forward."

Joseph Herbert, a junior at Winston Salem State University, will also join the Marshal's pitching staff in Dallas this summer. Herbert, a native of South Pines, North Carolina, has been a workhorse for the Rams in all three years of his collegiate career.

As a freshman, Herbert tied for the team lead in wins with five as he went 5-4 with one save in 16 appearances. Herbert averaged a strikeout per inning, fanning 57 batters in 57 frames. For his efforts, Herbert was named the WSSU Pitcher of the Year.

As a sophomore, Herbert threw another 57 innings across his 14 appearances. He went 5-1 on the year with a 4.06 ERA and 29 strikeouts.

This season, Herbert has appeared in just three games and has yet to allow a run in his four innings. He has surrendered just three hits and three walks and has one strikeout.

"Joseph turned in two impressive seasons as a freshman and sophomore at WSSU," Moore noted. "He's is certainly capable of being a dominant pitcher in our league this summer."

The Marshals will open the 2014 season at home on Thursday, May 29 against the East Texas Pump Jacks. Game time will be 7:05pm at Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas.

Season tickets for all 30 of the Marshals home games this season are on sale now. Fans can buy season tickets by calling 855-808-7529.
