
Three Northeast Leaguers in action

The United States defeated Mexico 4-0 in the opening game of the XXXV Baseball World Cup in Havana, Cuba, on Sunday. Brockton's Conor Brooks pitched one shutout inning, while Allentown 1B Vic Davila and Elmira C Bryan Jones also started in the game. The Americans will next be in action on Tuesday against Brazil.
Two other Northeast League players are participating in the tournament as members of the Italian national team: Brockton's Mike Marchesano and Danny DiPace, formerly of Allentown. The Italians will square off on Monday afternoon against the Russian team, which features nine players who played in exhibition games against Brockton, Berkshire, New Jersey, and Allentown in May. In addition, the eight current or former NEL players on the Canadian team will play their first game of the tournament against Nicaragua on Monday night.
