
Three More Pitchers Added to Westerners Staff

Danbury, CT- April 17, 2014: The Danbury Westerners, the longest tenured team in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, are proud to announce the signing of three more pitchers for the 2014 season: Tyler Buckley, Joseph Christopher and Glenn Irby
Tyler Buckley (Scranton PA) is a right-hander from Virginia Commonwealth University, who is red-shirting this season. In 2013 Tyler pitched in five games, making four starts and totaling 21.2 innings. Tyler's first career win at VCU occurred on March 2, 2013 against The Citadel. Buckley was signed by the Westerners in 2013, but required Tommy John surgery last spring.
Joseph Christopher (Merrick, NY) pitches for St. John's University. As of April 17th Christopher has made 14 appearances, including one start. He has a 1-0 record with 4.19 ERA, and 13 strikeouts in 19.1 innings pitched. In 2013 Christopher pitched in 17 games, all out of the bullpen, posting a 2-1 record with a 4.62 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 25.1 innings. He earned his first-career win with 3.0 scoreless innings against Stony Brook on March 26, 2013.
Glenn Irby (Florence AL) is a freshman southpaw for Mississippi State University. Irby is red-shirting this season at MSU. In high school Irby was rated the number three left-handed pitcher in the state of Alabama by national scouting service Perfect Game. Previous honors include 2013 Southeast All-Region Second-Team member, 2012 Perfect Game Honorable Mention Underclass All-American and 2012 Class 2A Pitcher of the Year.
