Indianapolis Ice News Release
INDIANAPOLIS, IN-- The Indianapolis Ice announced today that the team has added defensemen Keith Maurice and Mark Fontas and forward Steven Levac to its training camp roster.
Maurice, 22, comes to Indianapolis with a knack for winning as his four-year run with the Norwich Cadets (ECAC East-III) resulted in one Division Three NCAA Championship, one Division Three NCAA Runner-Up title and an overall record of 101-18-4. The 6-0, 185-pound defenseman was captain of the Cadets last season and second among defensemen in scoring on the team with 17 points (6G, 11A) in 32 games of action. In 105 career games at the school, he compiled 56 points (15G, 41A).
Fontas, 25, looks to return to the rink after missing last season due to injury. He spent the previous four years playing collegiate hockey as he played parts of three seasons of Division One hockey with University of Massachuetts-Lowell (Hockey East) and parts of two years with University of Massachusetts-Boston (ECAC East-III). He tallied nine points (1G, 8A) in 41 games with Lowell, but blossomed offensively during his two years with UMass-Boston as he was the top-scoring defenseman on the team with 38 points (8G, 30A) in 42 games of work.
Levac, 21, averaged a point a game last season for the Flin Flon Bombers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL). He was the leading scorer and most valuable player on the team as he amassed 63 points (26G, 37A) and 71 penalty minutes in 63 games. The rookie forward previously played a year of junior hockey with the Quebec Remparts (QMJHL) and a year of collegiate hockey with the Union College Skating Dutchmen (ECAC-NCAA-I).
"I am looking for a competitive and spirited training camp," said Ice Head Coach Ken McRae. "I look for this trio to come in and compete for regular season roster spots."
The Ice kicks off its 15th year of hockey when the team hosts the Tulsa Oilers on Friday, October 18th at 7:00 p.m. from the Pepsi Coliseum. Season ticket and advertising packages are now on sale. For more information, contact the Ice office at (317) 925-4423.
