Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - On a humid, breezy night in Bakersfield where offense would be hard to come by, the JetHawks got outstanding pitching and were able to manufacture runs. They used the hit and run as well as a timely bunt to push across three early runs, then let the pitching staff take over. Travis Beazley combined with two relievers to strike out fourteen batters and shut down the Blaze in a 4-0 win. The JetHawks got their record back to .500 (8-8) and have now won three straight road games.
Some rare Lancaster small ball put the JetHawks in the lead. With two runners aboard, manager Chad Epperson called for a hit and run. Argenis Diaz handled it perfectly, sending a single into right field to bring home the first run. An error put Lancaster up 2-0 in the second.
They used more small ball in the fourth. With two aboard, Luis Segovia dropped a perfect bunt down the third base line to bring home Mickey Hall. They later went back to their strength when Chih-Hsien Chiang hit his first home run of the season, putting Lancaster up 4-0 in the seventh.
Meanwhile, the pitching was spectacular throughout. Beazley allowed just three hits without a walk in six innings. He also struck out a season-high seven en route to the win. Richie Lentz used a blazing fastball blaze past Bakersfield, striking out five of the six batters he faced. T.J. Large added two more strike outs in the ninth to seal the win.
Offensively, Hall had his best game of the season with three hits. Chiang had two, extending his hit streak to seven. Jorge Jimenez singled in the second inning to improve his hit streak to ten.
The JetHawks continue their seven-game road trip Saturday night at Bakersfield. Adam Mills (1-2) will start for Lancaster against Blaze pitcher Zach Phillips (1-1). The game starts at 7:15 with the pre-game show on Magic 1340 and www.JetHawks.com beginning at 7:00.
