Three is a Charm

Alexandria Blizzard News Release

The goalie. One of the most instrumental players on any hockey team. The Blizzard's trio of goalies offer both talent and experience. Max Dodds was traded to the Blizzard after starting the season with the Santa Fe Roadrunners of the NAHL, Dodds spent last season playing for Eden Prairie High School. Both Joe Calvi and Dustin Carlson played last season in Junior Leagues. Calvi came via the Syracuse Stars Junior A organization. While Carlson headed north from the Peoria Mustangs of the Central States Hockey League. This formidable rotation can be seen inside of the goal on multiple differentiating nights. It has been an exciting year watching each of these goalies perform night in and night out. Their styles are worlds apart. While their attitudes on and off of the ice also differ. Surely each team and their fans know that the goalie can make or break a team. They are in a spotlight for the good and the bad.

Two wins, an overtime loss, and a huge fight highlight a ten game learning process for the Blizzard of Alexandria. Each season has its ups and its downs. This season is no different. While the team is still working out those expansion kinks of yesteryear they are forging ahead. The last ten games for the Blizzard are one of those times during the season where the adjustment to more intense plays and a need for less mistakes is being worked upon.

On December 14th the Blizzard narrowly beat the Southern Minnesota Express by winning in a shootout. The next game resulted in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Jets of Fargo-Moorhead. Two games came up and amounted to two losses. There was the win to ring in the New Year 4-3 over the Express. The next game against Fargo, even though it was a loss, provided an intense and exciting night for the home crowd. The Blizzard would go on to lose that game 6-3, yet the highlight of that night for the crowd was a fight that was fought between both of the teams and proved that hockey is not a sport without its hits and punches. The fight started of the 3rd period when Adam Hammerbeck got into it with Ryan Cramer of the Jets. From there everyone else grabbed onto an opposing player. That game and the four that followed all resulted in loses. One major thing is that the season is not over until the playoffs are made or entirely missed. Let there be intense hockey as the 2005-06 regular season progresses forward.
