Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa-Three road wins in three days by the Black Hawks helped three individual Waterloo players earn weekly commendations from the United States Hockey League, the USHL announced Monday.

Eamon McAdam (Reebok Goaltender of the Week), Ian McCoshen (CCM Defenseman of the Week), and Zach Stepan (CCM Forward of the Week) were among several Hawks who delivered sterling performances during the challenging trip for games in Muskegon, Ann Arbor, and Youngstown. It's the first time three Waterloo players have won a league honor in the same week since goalie C.J. Motte, defenseman Dan Sova, and forward Brock Montpetit accomplished the feat on November 30, 2009.

"The circumstances were tough this weekend. Zach, Ian, and Eamon each had a hand in our results, and they've all been important to helping us get off to a good start," said Black Hawks head coach P.K. O'Handley. "We've had several players step up to the occasion early this season, and there will be more opportunities, so we'll need that to continue."

Stepan shared his award with Todd Skirving of the Sioux Falls Stampede. The Black Hawks forward scored four goals in three games, including game-winning markers Friday versus the Lumberjacks and Saturday against the Team USA Under-17's. The Ohio State recruit also delivered a game-tying goal during a third period comeback Saturday. Stepan has a goal in four consecutive games, and seven for the season. His 13 points tie him for third among Waterloo players and fourth overall in the USHL.

McCoshen had a plus-minus rating of +8. During the three contests, no opposing goals were scored at any time the Hudson, Wisconsin, native was on the ice. McCoshen notched his first goal of the season Friday in Muskegon and added two assists Sunday versus the Phantoms. He is now +13 this season, leading the entire USHL. Appearing in eight of ten contests, McCoshen has yet to have a net-negative performance.

McAdam claimed his fourth and fifth victories of the season, including his second shutout with 33 saves Friday in a 3-0 decision. Sunday he made a season-high 39 saves to cap the weekend, helping Waterloo to the 8-3 decision despite the fact Youngstown put more pucks on frame than any Hawks opponent thus far in 2012/13. The Penn State recruit leads the USHL with a 96% save percentage. McAdam is also among the league's top five in victories (five, tied for third) and goals-against average (1.40, fourth).

McAdam, McCoshen, and Stepan are each receiving a USHL Player of the Week Award for the first time in their careers. They join goaltender Cal Petersen and forward Vince Hinostroza, who were each named Player of the Week for their respective specialties earlier in October.
