Thomas Named Top Defensive Player

SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose SaberCats defensive specialist CLEVAN THOMAS (5 '10, 191, Florida State) has won the Arena Football League's "ADT" Defensive Player of the Year award. Thomas became the first rookie, and first SaberCat, to win "ADT" Defensive Player of the Year honors.

A four-year letterwinner at Florida State, Thomas played every defensive down for the Western Division Champion SaberCats, who will play for the ArenaBowl XVI title on Sunday. He also led the team in interceptions (6), pass breakups (19) and tied for second in the league in passes defended with 24. In addition to playing every down on the defensive side of the ball, the former Seminole led the AFL and tied a league record with seven combined kick-return TDs.
