Three All-Stars Among Steamers' Picks In Dispersal Draft

With the second-best record in the MISL, and only one game out of first place, our Steamers are ready for an excellent second half of the season. An already strong squad got even more dangerous with the addition of three all-stars in Tuesday's (January 5) dispersal draft.

The Steamers selected seven players including legendary defender Sean Bowers, San Diego defender Mariano Bollella and Monterrey forward Marco "Chikis" Lopez. For more information click here

Upcoming Games:
The St. Louis Steamers will travel to Milwaukee on Friday night to face the Wave before returning home to play the expansion Chicago Storm on Sunday night at Savvis Center in this weekend's games.

Friday's game against the Wave will mark the third of nine meetings between the clubs this season. The Steamers are winless (0-2) in their first two matches against the Wave. St. Louis is coming off a 6-3 win over the Baltimore Blast on Sunday night at Savvis Center but are winless in their last two games on the road.

St. Louis is 0-3 on the power play and have killed both penalties in the first two contests against Milwaukee. Jeff DiMaria and Ibrahim Kante have each tallied a pair of goals against the Wave this season. The Steamers have posted a 7-1 record when scoring the first goal of the contest.

St. Louis has scored the second most goals in the first quarter, tallying 22 in the first frame. The Steamers are allowing the second least amount of shots per game only giving up 26.4 a game. Milwaukee is allowing the least amount of shots per game, giving up 24.1 a game.

Sunday's game will mark the second of nine meetings between the teams this season. St. Louis defeated the Storm 8-7, on Nov. 28 at Savvis Center in the teams first meeting of the season. Mike Apple tallied a pair of goals in the contest including the game-winner. Sterling Wescott also registered a pair of goals in the match.

The Steamers will hit the road to play back to back away games on Friday, January 14th at Cleveland and January 15th in Kansas City. On January 14th, the St. Louis Steamers will take on the Cleveland Force at Cleveland. Earlier in the season the Steamers crushed the Force by the largest margin of victory this season, 9 to 3.

This road game will be followed by another one away in Kansas City to face the Comets on Saturday, January 15th. Earlier in the season the Steamers were victorious over the Comets 7 to 6.

The Steamers will return to Savvis Center on January 21st to once again battle K.C. Comets on St. Louis turf at 7:35p.m.

MISL Releases Revised League Schedule:
The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) released today its revised composite League schedule for the remainder of the 2004-05 regular season. As a result of the San Diego Sockers and MISL Monterrey discontinuing operations for the balance of the season, the remaining home matches of the Sockers and the MISL Monterrey schedules for the 2004-05 season have been cancelled. All other teams will play their 20 home matches as scheduled, with some minor adjustments. The 2004-05 MISL regular season runs for 28 weeks, concluding on April 24. No games were scheduled for the Christmas holiday weekend.

Spotlight Player of the Game:
This week the Steamers Newsletter would like to congratulate Steamers forward Mike Apple who led the St. Louis offense with two goals and an assist against the Baltimore Blast on Sunday. Apple, the Steamers' leading goal-scorer, scored his 13th of the season at 5:41 of the second quarter to give the Steamers a 3-1 lead. The goal was assisted by Steamers goalkeeper Brett Phillips. Apple scored his second goal of the game at 13:13 of the third quarter. Mike Apple was able to score again off of a power play goal assisted by Joe Reiniger.

Every Wednesday until the end of the season the Steamers players will be at Syberg's on Dorsett and Helen Fitzgeralds on Lindbergh. Come out and join the party with the Steamers players!
The St. Louis Steamers have partnered with Tobacco Free Missouri and Madison County Health Department, in effort to reach out to the youth of St. Louis. The players will make weekly appearances at schools, in both Missouri and Illinois to educate kids about the dangers of tobacco use.
January 17th - Dream Day with the Steamers at Concord Sports Clubs in South County. Youth soccer teams will receive FREE clinics from Steamers players and coaches. For more information, please call 314-229-4178. Some spots are still available.
January 18th at Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville from 12:00 - 3:00. Justin McMillian and Cal Thomas will be signing autographs and promoting the SIUE night at the January 21st game at Savvis.
January 27th - Steamers players will be at St. Jacob Elementary in Illinois from 1:30 - 3:00 conducting a school assembly on the dangers of smoking.
January 30th - Sports Expo at Savvis Center - Steamers players and staff will have a table with other professional sports teams from 5:00 - 6:00 pm at the event benefiting the St. Patrick's Center.
