Island Storm News Release
Toronto native Dwayne Smith will play his rookie professional season in his home country, signing a contract with the Island Storm, pending FIBA clearance.
The 6'6", 225 lbs Forward played university ball at George Washington University, playing in 120 games over his career for the Colonials.
Smith started 38 games at GWU, shooting 42.4% from the floor and 32.3% from beyond the arc.
Storm Head Coach Joe Salerno describes Smith as another hardworking player he's been able to add to the Storm's training camp roster.
"Dwayne is a real blue-collar basketball player. He's a hustle guy, who works extremely hard to get results on the court. He's got great size and is extremely versatile - we will look for Dwayne to contribute in multiple areas for our team."
Smith becomes the third Canadian to join the Storm's roster, including fellow Toronto native Ashton Graham, and PEI's Doug McKinney.
The Storm will welcome the Saint John Mill Rats to an exhibition matchup on Friday night at UPEI. Game time is 7pm and the Storm will have made another round of cuts, leaving the roster heading into exhibition games sitting at 14 players. Tickets for the exhibition game at UPEI are available at the door, and costs are $5 for adults, $3 for students. Proceeds to UPEI Basketball.
The Island Storm will travel to Halifax on Sunday for a 2pm game at the Metro Centre vs the Rainmen.
