Jacksonville Barracudas News Release

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Barracudas announced today the formation of the BARRACUDAS ICE GIRLS dance squad.

The Ice Girls will be a group of 15 women that will cheer on the Barracudas during all home games this season at the brand new Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. The Ice Girls will also be a major part of the marketing and promoting of the team.

The Barracudas are also proud to announce the appointment of Michele Wright as the Director of Barracudas Ice Girls. Supermodel Kim Alexis will be the Barracudas Ice Girls Advisor.

Wright, a Pensacola native, has been a Jacksonville resident since 1979. A graduate of Southern Baptist Academy, Wright was Captain of the JV and Varsity Cheerleading squads there. Wright earned a degree in Political Science and Communication from Florida State University. She also cheered for the NFL Jacksonville Jaguars during their inaugural season.

Wright has choreographed numerous cheerleading and dancing routines for several squads. She owned her own preschool gymnastics company, and coached a collegiate squad who placed in the Divisional cheerleading competition.

The Barracudas Ice Girls will be comprised of businesswomen, students, talented dancers, models, athletes and choreographers throughout the First Coast. Besides the game day duties, the Ice Girls will volunteer considerable time in the community with the Hockey 4 Kids Program, the S.K.A.T.E. Program, and various community charitable organizations.

"We're looking for fun, exceptional women that love to perform and represent the Barracudas both on and off the ice," Wright said. "Our troupe will greet fans as they arrive, interact with them during the game, engage in promotional activities during game stoppages, and will perform during intermission."

Currently, Wright is a Senior Project Manager of the Duval County Public Schools Technology Department. She is extremely active in the community with the NFL Alumnae Cheerleaders, Clara White Mission, Boys and Girls Club, Police Athletic League, and the RECLAIM Baptist Church.

Alexis is a world-renowned supermodel who has appeared on the cover of over 500 magazines. She has appeared in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue six times, and has represented many companies as either a model or spokesperson. She and her husband, Barracudas coach Ron Duguay, are active in many charitable causes including focusing on health and wellness issues for women.

Alexis will advise the girls on fashion and will work with Wright on the Ice Girls image in the community and on the ice as representatives of the Barracudas.

"Michele will get my input and feedback," Alexis said. "But this is her 'baby' and I will help her as much or little as she wants."

Open auditions for the Ice Girls will be held on Saturday, October 4th from 9am-4pm at the Boleros Danceport Center located at 10131 Atlantic Blvd in Jacksonville. Women at least 18 years of age interested in being a part of the most exciting dance team in Jacksonville log on to jacksonvillebarracudas.com for all the details.

Fans will be able to see the Ice Girls at the Veterans Memorial Arena at every home game when the Barracudas take on the Alabama Slammers, Lakeland Loggerheads, Macon Trax, Miami Manatees, and Orlando Seals in the WHA2 inaugural season.
