Mississippi Surge News Release
The Mississippi Surge, which led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by Mississippi Surge and clinched a 4-2 victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Mississippi Surge's Kyle Fletcher's scored at 3:28 in the third period to put Mississippi Surge up 3-0.
Mississippi Surge excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Mississippi Surge kept the Knoxville Ice Bears' goalie busy throughout the game, and Cody Rosen made 29 saves on 33 shots. Mississippi Surge was helped by Chapen LeBlond, who tallied one goal and one assist. LeBlond scored 15:18 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Mississippi Surge. Nicholas Kuqali provided the assist. Mississippi Surge also got points from Mark Thorburn, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Reid Edmondson also scored for Mississippi Surge. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi Surge were Tom Janosz and Jordan Peddle, who each chipped in one.
Knoxville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Mississippi Surge to score on any of its three power plays. The Ice Bears put 37 shots on net during the contest, more than the 27.4 they average per game.
Knoxville was helped by Jon Higgins, who racked up one goal. Higgins scored 13:48 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Mississippi Surge. Knoxville also got a goal from Peter Neal as well. More assists for Knoxville came via Nate Peterson and Eric Satim, who contributed one a piece.
Mathieu Dugas rejected 35 shots on goal for Mississippi Surge. Mississippi Surge incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Ice Bears incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
