The Rocks Look to Earn a Victory on the Jocks Home Turf

June 10, 2016 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Los Angeles KISS News Release

This Saturday the LA KISS (4-5) will travel east in search of a win against the Philadelphia Soul (8-2). This will be the second matchup between the "Rock vs. Jocks" Rivals this season. Kickoff is scheduled for noon PST and will be available for fans to watch online via ESPN3/Watch ESPN.

The Soul's six-game winning streak ended in Week 8 when the Cleveland Gladiators defeated the Soul 63-49. Hungry for a win, Philadelphia traveled to Jacksonville last week where they defeated the sharks 56-42. The game was well-matched until the forth quarter when Philadelphia scored 14 points, stopping Jacksonville from seeing the end zone. Headed back home, the Soul are determined to revive their winning streak and stay atop the American Conference.

The LA KISS faced a heartbreaking loss at home last week falling to Orlando 41-43. The week before, special teams contributed significantly to the LA KISS win against Portland, however this week, special teams struggled to ensure a win for the LA KISS. The LA KISS did not trail the Predators at any point in the game, until the final score. With 10 seconds left in the forth, Orland scored and was unable to take the lead when Lewis missed the PAT and the score remained even at 41. With four seconds left on the clock, the LA KISS lined up to kick a field goal. As time expired the holder, Danny Southwick, was unable to control the Sam Tupua snap and the ball rolled off of the board in the back of the end zone for a safety. The final score was Orlando Predators 43, LA KISS 41.

This is the second and final "Rock vs. Jocks" matchup between the LA KISS and the Philadelphia Soul. During their last meeting, the tie-game after the first quarter proved that the LA KISS could compete with the Soul. However, after Philadelphia scored 21 points in the second quarter, the LA KISS could not keep up their momentum causing them to fall to the Soul, by a score of 33-56.

Philadelphia QB and Under Armour Offensive Player of the Game Dan Raudabaugh completed 21-of-25 passes for 289 yards and six touchdowns in their last game, a win against Jacksonville. Philadelphia currently leads the league in scoring defense, pass defense efficiency and interceptions boasting rates of 44.9, 89.9 and 19.3, respectively. These achievements show that the LA KISS will have to focus on stopping the Soul's defense in order to compete. Soul WR Ryan McDaniel led the receivers with 10 receptions for 167 yards and three touchdowns in their last game while Darius Reynolds tallied five catches for 72 yards and two touchdowns.
