AFL's Active Sack Leader Joins LA KI SS
June 10, 2016 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Los Angeles KISS News Release
Last week, the LA KISS activated defensive lineman Mike Lewis to the 24-man roster. Lewis was acquired via a trade from the Orlando Predators in exchange for John Martinez and Logan Harrell on May 24, 2016.
"There is no doubt that Mike is one of the most dependable pass rushers in AFL history," said Head Coach Omarr Smith. "We are excited to see how his veteran will impact our defensive front for the remainder of the season."
Lewis (6'2, 260, Adrian), who is in his seventh year in the AFL, ranks second in Arena Football League history with 57 career sacks and is the AFL's active sack leader. Prior to joining Orlando this past offseason, Lewis spent the 2015 season with the Las Vegas Outlaws after playing three of his first five seasons for the Iowa Barnstormers. In 2013, he became the first player in league history to record double-digit sacks in three consecutive seasons. The defensive lineman earned first or second team All-Arena honors in four straight seasons, from 2011 to 2014.
Lewis, a native of Huntley, Illinois, played collegiate football at Adrian College, where he set school career records for sacks (40.5), tackles for loss (60.5) and fumble recoveries (7). As a senior in 2005, he was named the "Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Defensive MVP" and was recognized with the "First-Team All-American" award.
In his first start and appearance with the LA KISS last week, Lewis recorded three tackles, including one sack.
