(Villanova, PA) The Philadelphia Barrage, a Charter Member of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), tried valiantly to deliver their first-ever win in Philadelphia, but were narrowly defeated by the Baltimore Bayhawks in overtime, 19-18, in front of a raucous crowd of 2,495 fans at Villanova Stadium. Greg Cattrano shined in goal, tying a league record with 31 saves, and Ryan Boyle wowed fans in his debut with 5 points (3g, 2a). Blake Miller added four goals, all in the second quarter, and two assists for the Barrage.

The Barrage started out the game with a slow start. Mark Millon of Baltimore opened the scoring with a goal at 11:41. Matt Striebel quickly retaliated with a goal at 9:36. Roy Colsey scored at 6:05 with an assist from Boyle, his first MLL point. At the end of the first quarter, Baltimore led, 7-2.

Boyle, the second overall pick in the 2004 Collegiate Draft just two weeks ago, found the back of the net 35 seconds into the quarter. Following Boyle's goal, Miller went on his scoring tear with four goals and an assist. Tom Marechek and Paul Cantabene scored the Bayhawks' lone goals in the second quarter. Baltimore's Kip Fulks scored his first goal of the night, a two-pointer, to pull the Bayhawks within one, 12-11. Colsey answered with a tally of his own from behind the arc with 26 seconds left in the quarter, making the score 14-11 going into the final stanza.

Boyle led the Barrage in scoring during the fourth quarter with a pair of goals. Cromwell and Shanahan both notched another goal for Philadelphia during the quarter, but it wasn‘t enough to hold off the Baltimore charge. The Bayhawks scored six goals in the quarter, including a two-point goal from Jeff Sonke with 1:04 remaining to send the game into overtime.

In the MLL's first overtime game of the 2004 season, both teams traded possessions for several trips up and down the field.
