An extra-inning win for the red-hot Mountaineers headlined Wednesday's five-game slate.

Upper Valley Nighthawks 10 - Keene Swamp Bats 0

W - Austin Wainer 2-1 (Bryant): 3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

L - Parker Murphy 0-1 (Jacksonville): 3.0 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

Maxfield Sports Complex in Hartford, VT - The Upper Valley Nighthawks (6-7) gathered their second double-digit win in three games in a 10-0 victory over the Keene Swamp Bats (7-6).

Everything worked for the Nighthawks on Wednesday night. They gathered 13 hits while only allowing four, and had control from the start. After Matthew McShane (St. Joseph's) threw a scoreless inning in the top of the first, Upper Valley put runners on the corners with one out. Ryan Ignoffo (Eastern Illinois) went to steal second base, which forced a throw. After the ball was bobbled at second base, Tyler Sorrentino (Charleston) scored the first run of the game. Then, after William Sullivan (Troy) walked, he and Ignoffo executed a double steal. After that, Luca Trigiani (St. Joseph's) stroked a 2-run single to make it 3-0.

On the pitching and defensive side, the Nighthawks had the Swamp Bats under control. McShane and Austin Wainer combined for six scoreless frames with only three hits allowed. Then, Hudson Leach (Creighton), Michael O'Hanlon (Hofstra), and Trey Nordmann (Lipscomb) each threw a scoreless inning, with O'Hanlon striking out the side.

Upper Valley's offense was highlighted again in the seventh inning when its first seven batters reached base safely. The Nighthawks ended up scoring five runs in the inning.

Ignoffo continued the dominance that earned him an NECBL Player of the Week honor, as he went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases.

The Nighthawks will look to get to .500 today at home at 6 p.m. against the North Adams SteepleCats. The Swamp Bats will look to stay above .500 when they face the Ocean State Waves at home at 6:30 p.m. today.

Winnipesaukee Muskrats 6 - Martha's Vineyard Sharks 5

W - Ryan Dee 1-0 (Hartford): 2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

L - Case Matter 0-2 (Washington): 2.1 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 4 BB, 4 K

Robbie Mills Field in Laconia, N.H. - The Winnipesaukee Muskrats (6-7) held on for a 6-5 victory over the Martha's Vineyard Sharks (7-7).

The Muskrats were up 3-2 in the bottom of the third inning, but had an opportunity to extend their lead further with two outs. On an 0-2 count, Cristian Mercedes (Southern New Hampshire) hit a deep fly ball over the right field fence to make it 6-2. This ended up being a big difference in the game, as the Muskrats won by just a run.

Winnipesaukee's Jacob Corson (Bucknell) hit an RBI double for the first run of the game. In the top of the second inning, Vineyard's Michael Snyder (Washington) responded with a solo home run to tie the game at one.

With the Muskrats on top for most of the game, the Sharks still had their opportunities.

Down by two with men on first and second base with two out, Matt Woods (Bryant) hit an RBI single to bring it within one. Then, Winnipesaukee called on Cooper Dundas, who induced a ground ball out to get out of the jam. Dundas threw a scoreless ninth inning to secure the victory.

The Muskrats have an off day today before heading to Lynn, MA for a 6:35 p.m. game against the North Shore Navigators. The Sharks will be on the road today for a 12 p.m. game against the Mystic Schooners.

Bristol Blues 6 - North Adams SteepleCats 1 (8 innings)

W - William Paoli 3-0 (Ramapo): 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

L - Alex Fenton 0-1 (Davidson): 0.1 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 0 K

Joe Wolfe Field in North Adams, Mass - The Bristol Blues (12-2) took down the North Adams SteepleCats (3-11) in an eight inning contest.

After entering the top of the sixth knotted at one, Bristol broke the game open to take a 4-1 lead. RBI singles from Joseph Rios (Central Connecticut St) and Chaz Myers (Pacific) and a passed ball plated three Blues runners, helping Bristol regain the lead.

The Blues originally took the lead in the top of the fifth off a Chaz Myers double. Myers ended the night with three hits and two RBIs, the most on either team. North Adams responded in the bottom of the inning thanks to an Alex Lane (Bryant) single. Bristol then scored three runs in the sixth and two in the eighth to take a 6-1 lead. The game ended in the bottom of the eighth during a North Adams at bat due to issues with Joe Wolfe Field's lighting.

Bristol looks for its tenth straight win later today at 6:30 p.m. when it hosts Valley (7-6). North Adams travels to Upper Valley to take on the Nighthawks (6-7) today at 6:00 p.m.

Vermont Mountaineers 4 - Mystic Schooners 3 (10 innings)

W - Matthew Scibilio 1-0 (Colby) 2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K

L - Ben Gorski 0-1 (Rutgers) 2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER (1 R), 0 BB, 2 K

The Vermont Mountaineers (13-1) outlasted the Mystic Schooners (5-5) in an extra inning affair at Dodd Stadium Wednesday night.

Vermont got things going in the top of the second inning when Connor Hujsak (VCU) swatted a leadoff home run. The Mountaineers scored again in the inning on a sac fly off the bat of Jack Cone (William and Mary) to put Vermont up 2-0. Mystic fought back in the third inning with RBI singles from Anthony Donofrio (Quinnipiac) and Kevin Ferrer (UConn), as well as a sac fly from Jordan Sweeney (Rutgers). Mystic held a 3-2 lead, but it did not last.

Cone struck again in the fourth inning with an RBI single that plated Hujsak, representing the tying run. From there, it became a bullpen game. Vermont's Jake Simon (Fairleigh Dickinson) and Mystic's Hector Alejandro (UConn) and Bowen Baker (Fairfield) shut down the opposing offenses until the end of the ninth.

Vermont started extra innings on the right note as Stephen DiTomaso (George Washington) scored on a wild pitch. With the tying run on second and one out in the bottom of the tenth, Matthew Scibilio induced a big double play to win the game for the Mountaineers. Vermont's bullpen tallied six shutout innings in the win.

The Mountaineers will remain in Connecticut as they take on the Danbury Westerners on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The Schooners will stay at Dodd Stadium to face the Martha's Vineyard Sharks at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Sanford Mainers 6 - Newport Gulls 4

W - Jacob Marshall 1-1 (Le Moyne) 5 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 6 K

L - Jake Garland 1-1 (Miami) 7.1 IP, 5 H, 6 ER, 1 BB, 10 K

The Sanford Mainers (5-9) swatted two towering homers to take down the Newport Gulls (7-6) on Wednesday night.

The game began as a pitchers duel with Sanford's Jacob Marshall and Newport's Jake Garland not allowing a run through the first four innings of the game. Newport blinked first in the top of the fifth when Aidan Kane (Delaware) followed up a Grant Knipp (Campbell) single with a two run home run to get either team on the board. The game stayed this way until the top of the eighth inning. Kane, Jake Rainess (Maine Orono), and Kevin Skagerlind (UMass Amherst) each led off the inning by getting on base, loading the bases with no one out. After Newport got the first out, leadoff hitter Quinn McDaniel (Maine Orono) crushed a grand slam to put Sanford up 6-0.

Newport immediately responded in the bottom of the eighth with four runs of its own. The runs came on an RBI single from Cameron Clayton (Washington) and a three run home run from Colten Ledbetter (Samford). The Mainer's 5-9 hitters contributed four of the team's five hits, with the bottom of the lineup playing a critical role in the victory.

The Mainers will return home to take on another Coastal Division team in the North Shore Navigators Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The Gulls will have an off day on Thursday before facing the Keene Swamp Bats at Cardines Field on Friday at 6:35 p.m.
