Goodall Park in Sanford, Maine - The Vermont Mountaineers (5-0) continue their undefeated streak with a sweep of the first double header in the season against the Sanford Mainers (0-5). The Mountaineers took both games with scores of 2-0 and 4-2.
Game 1 - After Afthim limited the Mountaineers to just three hits and Parker kept the Mainers at bay with just one hit, The Mountaineers broke through with a two run performance beginning with center fielder Gerry Siracusa (Massachusetts Lowell) hit a double of the first at bat of the fourth inning, advanced to third on a sacrifice fly by catcher Matthew Venuto (Fairfield), and ran home after a single RBI by right fielder Jack Cone (William & Mary).
Short stop Joan Sosa (Fairleigh Dickinson) followed up with the second run after a hit by pitch, stole second, and a single by designated hitter Joshua Cameron (Southeast Missouri State) for a 2-0 score. Parker then put up a no-hitter performance for the final three innings while Mainers' pitcher Ryan Butler (Liberty) only allowed one hit in the same span to hold the game to a 2-0 final score.
Game 2 - The Mainers got the early lead in the bottom of the second when third baseman Mark Castillo (Georgetown) hit a single, stole second, and was brought home by designated hitter Devan Bade (Binghamton) for a 1-0 score.
The score remained unchanged through the next three innings until the Mountaineers moved to first on a walk, got to third with a single by Siracusa, and ran in the equalizer to tie the game up 1-1. Moving into an eighth inning due to international tiebreaker rules, both teams put in a run by Mountaineers' first baseman Stephen DiTomaso (George Washington) and Mainers' left fielder Jayson Kramer (St Johns), but the Mainers could not hold back the Mountaineers offense in the ninth as they broke the tie with two runs by Siracusa and Ben Williamson. McFall then secured the win after only allowing one hit to the Mainers to take the double-header sweep with a 4-2 score.
The Mountaineers look to continue their dominance against the equally impressive Keene Swamp Bats (5-0) at home and the Mainers search for their first win as they host the Winnipesaukee Muskrats (2-2).
Winnipesaukee Muskrats 10 - Upper Valley Nighthawks 6
W - Joey Ventresca 1-0 (Monmouth): 1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, (2 R), 0 BB, 1 K
L - Chic DeGaetano 1-1 (Villanova): 2.1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER (4 R), 1 BB, 2 K
Maxfield Sports Complex in Hartford, VT - The Winnipesaukee Muskrats (2-2) downed the Upper Valley Nighthawks (2-2) thanks to a 7 run seventh inning.
Both teams scored twice in the first. The Muskrats plated two after an error and RBI single from Brett Paulsen (Stony Brook). The Nighthawks knotted things up at two thanks to a Ryan Ignoffo (Eastern Illinois) RBI and Luca Trigiani (St Josephs) single. Winnipesaukee re-took the lead in the third after another Upper Valley error, but UV quickly tied the game at three in the bottom of the fourth off a Ty Kaufman (North Carolina Asheville) groundout.
The Muskrats pulled away later in the game thanks to a seven run seventh inning. Multiple errors, RBI singles from Matt Brown-Eiring (Stony Brook) and Jack Thorbahn (Northeastern) and a double from Jacob Corson (Bucknell) put the game out of reach. The Nighthawks got three back in the seventh and eighth after RBIs from Clay Stearns (Troy) and Tyler Sorrentino (Charleston) and a homer from William Sullivan (Troy). Sullivan ended the day with two hits and leads UV with a .500 batting average so far this season.
The Muskrats travel to Sanford this afternoon to play the Mainers (0-5) at 4:30 p.m., while Upper Valley has an off day today before playing the Muskrats again on Monday at 6:00 p.m., this time in Winnipesaukee.
Keene Swamp Bats 6 - Bristol Blues 3
W - Zachary Davidson 1-0 (Radford): 1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 1 K.
L - Carson Kohls 1-1 (Penn State): 4 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
Alumni Field, Keene, N.H. - The Keene Swamp Bats (4-0) defeated the Bristol Blues (3-2) 6-3 to improve their winning streak to four games and remain undefeated.
The Bristol Blues struck early when Derek Tenney (Hartford) drove in a run with a single to right field to give the Blues a 1-0 lead. The Swamp Bats would even the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third when Jackson Ross (Florida Atlantic) hit an RBI single to left field, driving in one run. Two innings later, the Keene offense would explode for four runs including a two run home run from Jaden Brown (Texas Arlington) and RBIs coming from Dan Covino (Central Connecticut) and Carter Mathison (Indiana). Up by three heading into the ninth, the Swamp Bats closer Parker Murphy (Jacksonville) took over on the mound, striking out two batters to end the game and earn the save.

Newport Gulls 2 - Ocean State Waves 1
W - Dominic Perachi 1-0 (Salve Regina): 6.0 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 11 K
L - Brooks Ey 0-1 (Virginia Commonwealth): 5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
S - Tyler Cortland (Dartmouth): 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
Old Mountain Field in Kingston, R.I. - The Newport Gulls (3-1) edged out the Ocean State Waves (2-2) in a 2-1 victory in the Pell Bridge Rivalry.
With the bases were loaded in the top of third inning with one out and the game still scoreless, Colton Ledbetter (Samford) was at the plate and he ground a ball to the first baseman. He fired to second base for the second out of the inning, but Ledbetter sped into first base in time to kill the attempted double play, which in turn, scored the first run of the game.
Two innings later, Newport's Luke Beckstein (Northeastern) led off by reaching on an error. Then, Samuel Kulasingam (Air Force) hit a double to put men on second and third base with one out. The following batter was Joshua Kuroda-Grauer (Rutgers New Brunswick), who hit a deep fly ball to drive Beckstein in and make it 2-0.
Keeping the Waves scoreless was Dominic Perachi, who threw six shutout innings with just three hits, no walks, and 11 strikeouts. Those 11 strikeouts were tied for the most by a pitcher in an NECBL game this year.
Ocean State's pitching staff did its best to keep the team in the game. A combination of Brooks Ey, Nick Payero (Seton Hall), Ryan Gleason (Charleston Southern), Brandyn Garcia (Quinnipiac) did not allow an earned run through nine innings, only two runs total, and struck out 10 batters.
After John Lumpinski (Binghamton) went two scoreless innings of relief for the Gulls, he walked Brodey Heaton (Belmont) to lead off the ninth inning. Kyle Maves (Quinnipiac) pinch ran and stole second and third base, then was driven in to score on a single from Jake Studley (Connecticut).
Tyler Cortland was called on to get the final two outs for Newport, which is exactly what he did on two strikeouts.
Newport's next game comes tomorrow at the team's home field against the Martha's Vineyard Sharks at 6:35 p.m. The Waves will be on the road today at 4:05 p.m. against the North Shore Navigators.
Mystic Schooners 13 - Danbury Westerners 3

L - Ethan Bradford 0-1 (Nebraska Lincoln): 1.2 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
Rogers Park in Danbury, CT - Despite getting outhit, the Mystic Schooners (2-2) crushed the Danbury Westerners (2-2) 13-3.
Mystic struck first in the second inning thanks to a Tucker Flint (North Carolina Greensboro) solo home run. In the bottom of the inning, the game turned into a home run party, as Danbury scored twice and took the lead after two solo shots from left fielder Harrison Feinberg (Southern California) and first baseman Hank Thomas (Ohio St). In the third, an Addison Kopack (Rhode Island) 2-run bomb helped the Schooners re-take the lead. The Westerners knotted things up at three in the bottom of the fourth. A Mystic error allowed Colby Canales (Pacific) to scamper home.
The game turned on its head in the top of the fifth when the Schooners broke the game open. RBIs from Flint, Cole Singsank (High Point), Stanton Leuthner (Stony Brook) and Tristan McAlister (Mt St Mary's) plated six Mystic runners. The away team would score four more runs in the sixth and seventh innings through a Danbury error and three wild pitches. The Schooners only had six hits compared to the Westerners 8, but walked 12 times.
Mystic returns home tonight to face Marthas Vineyard (3-1) at 6:30 p.m. The Westerners go on the road to North Adams (0-5) tonight at 7:00 p.m.
Martha's Vineyard Sharks 5 - North Adams SteepleCats 2
W - Jack Beauchesne 2-0 (Northeastern): 4 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K.
L - Ryan Birchard 0-2 (Niagara County): 0.2 IP, 1 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 1 K
Joe Wolfe Field in North Adams, Mass. - Despite both teams hitting well, the Martha's Vineyard Sharks (3-1) were able to outscore the North Adams SteepleCats (0-5) who have lost the first five games of their season.
After going down 1-0 in the top of the second inning, SteepleCats Alex Lane (Bryant) tied the game up with a solo shot, his first home run of the year. The Sharks would regain the lead in the sixth thanks to poor pitching by North Adams and would add to it in the eighth with RBI singles coming from Bradley Frye (Georgia Tech) and Danny Crossen (Northeastern). In the Bottom of the ninth, Preston Wetherell (Florida State) would take the mound for Martha's Vineyard to close out the game and earn the save.
Both teams play on Sunday, June 11, with the Sharks playing on the road against the Mystic Schooners at 6:30 p.m. while the SteepleCats host the Danbury Westerners at 7:00 p.m.
North Shore Navigators 5 - Valley Blue Sox 3
W - Todd Tringale 1-0 (University of Dayton) 6 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 8 K
L - Kevin Haynes 0-1 (Sacramento State) 4 IP, 2 H, 1 ER (2 R), 2 BB, 4 K
Mackenzie Stadium in Holyoke, Mass. - The North Shore Navigators (1-3) took home their first win of the season as they defeated the Valley Blue Sox (2-3) in their home stadium. The game started as a pitchers duel as Todd Tringale and Kevin Haynes had yet to allow a hit after the third inning. After Max Viera (Northeastern University) reached on an error in the fourth, Trace Willhoite (Lipscomb University) connected to deep left field for the first home run for the Navigators this season. The big fly put North Shore up 2-0.
The offense continued for the Navs in the fifth. After Justin Cassella (Elon University) drew a walk, Viera plated him on a double to left-center field. He would come around to score on a wild pitch, making it 4-0 Navigators. In the seventh, Jake Bullard (Stetson) knocked a triple into right field, and came around to score on a single by Reece Rappoli (Brown University). The Blue Sox would eventually answer with an RBI single from Danny Melnick (Quinnipiac University) in the seventh and a two run home run by Sam Franco (Purdue University) in the eight, but it wasn't enough. North Shore came into this game having tallied only one extra-base hit on the season. They're three today all proved to be critical in the winning effort.
The Navigators will return to Fraser Field on Sunday to face the Ocean State Waves at 4:05 p.m., while the Valley Blue Sox will stay in Holyoke for a rematch with the Bristol Blues on Sunday at 5:05 p.m.
