L - Peyton Heisner 0-2 (Merrimack): 2.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 2 K

Cardines Field in Newport, R.I. - The Newport Gulls (14-8) walked it off in the 11th inning to win 7-6 over the North Shore Navigators (6-17)

With the game tied at six in the bottom of the 11th, the Gulls looked to end the game quickly. Leading off the inning was Alex Makarewicz (East Carolina), who on the first pitch he saw, hit a hard ground ball up the middle and into center field. That allowed Trent Farquhar (Michigan State) to score and give Newport the victory.

The scoring started in the top of the third inning when North Shore's Jake McElroy (Holy Cross) hit a 2-run double. Newport responded in the bottom of the inning when Colton Ledbetter (Samford) hit a solo home run.

Two innings later, North Shore's Nathan Blasick (West Virginia) hit a solo home run to extend the Navigators' lead. The next home run came in the bottom of the inning from Joshua Kuroda-Grauer (Rutgers New Brunswick), who made it a 3-2 game.

The next inning, the Gulls got a rally going. They loaded the bases, then Farquhar was hit by a pitch to tie the game. Makarewicz beat out a double play, which allowed Slate Alford (Mississippi State) to score from third base and Luke Beckstein (Northeastern) to score from second, as he came around third on the throw to first base.

It did not take long for the Navigators to respond. Stan DeMartinis III (Bryant) doubled and Trace Willhoite (Lipscomb) walked to lead off the top of the seventh. Two groundouts allowed DeMartinis III to move to third and then score. After that, Willhoite scored off an error to tie the game at five.

The game eventually reached extra innings, and each team scored a run in the 10th inning. In the top of the 11th inning, Tyler Cortland induced a groundout to start the frame. Then, with runners on the corners and one out, he struck the batter out as the runner on first went to steal second base. Jacob Burley (Brown) faked a throw to second base, then was interfered with on an attempt to third base. The umpire called batter interference for the third out of the inning, which set up for the walk-off.

The Gulls will be on the road tomorrow for a game against the Upper Valley Nighthawks at 4:05 p.m. The Navigators' next game will be at home against the Ocean State Waves tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.
