Maxfield Sports Complex, Hartford, V.T. - The Bristol Blues (22-7) edged out the Upper Valley Nighthawks (14-15) in a back-and-forth contest that was decided in extra innings on Monday night at Maxfield Sports Complex.
Trailing by just one run in the top of the ninth inning, the Blues took advantage of two players being hit by a pitch and a walk to load the bases, allowing Jack Lynch (Manhattan College) to score on a wild pitch, tying the game at 5-5, and sending it to extra innings. In an unfortunate series of events for the Nighthawks, a single by Derek Tenney (Hartford) in the top of the tenth turned into the go-ahead run when errors by the left fielder and pitcher allowed him to score on the play.
Upper Valley outhit Bristol 10-to-8, scoring two runs in the first inning on Jonathan Hogart's (Louisiana Tech) third home run of the season and an RBI double by Clay Stearns (Troy). The Nighthawks scored three more runs throughout the game with RBIs coming from a William Sullivan (Troy) double in the third, a Johnny Decker (Marist College) triple in the sixth, and a Decker single in the eighth.
The Blues' offense was spearheaded by Josh Spiegel (Penn St.) who went 2-for-2 on the night with an RBI single in the first and a walk to drive in a run in the fourth. Matt Smith (Southern Conn.) also came up big for Bristol, hitting a two-run double to right field in the fourth inning.
Both teams enjoy a day off before returning to play on Wednesday, July 13th, with the Nighthawks hosting the Keene Swamp Bats at 4:30 p.m. and the Blues playing a road game against the Newport Gulls beginning at 6:35 p.m.
Winnipesaukee Muskrats 6 - Danbury Westerners 1
W - Griffin Young 1-3 (Northeastern): 6.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K
L - Cody Carwile 1-1 (Georgia Tech): 5.0 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Robbie Mills Sports Complex, Laconia, N.H. - The Danbury Westerners (12-18) offense overpowered the Winnipesaukee Muskrats (12-16) at Robbie Mills Sports Complex on Monday night.
The Westerners put the pressure on the Muskrats, scoring early and often starting in the third inning when Patrick Roche (Boston College), who went 3-for-4 on the night, hit a two-run double to put Danbury on the board. In the fifth inning, Jacob Corson (Bucknell) and Cristian Mercedes (SNHU) both hit solo home runs to give the Westerners a 4-0 lead.
After letting up another run in the bottom of the seventh on an error and a balk, the Muskrats finally got on the board off an RBI single from Michael Becchetti (Fairfield). However, Danbury would answer when Kohl Abrams (NC Asheville) singled to drive in an additional run in the bottom of the eighth and cap off scoring for the night.
Both teams return to play on Tuesday, July 12th, with the Muskrats hosting the North Shore Navigators at 6:00 p.m. while the Westerners host the Valley Blue Sox beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Montpelier Recreation Field, Montpelier, V.T. - The Vermont Mountaineers (24-4) cruised to a 7-1 win over the Keene Swamp Bats (10-18) after a fast start.
Vermont took no time getting going, creating a seven-run lead after just four innings. The Mountaineers scored three in the first thanks to a Stephen DiTomaso (George Washington) double and a Mark Trotta (William & Mary) sacrifice fly. Vermont added two more in the second through a Tom Josten (Central Florida) RBI and a Cameron Gill (Wofford) triple. An error in the fourth inning helped the home team plate two more runners. At the end of the inning, Vermont led 7-0.
The Mountaineers' pitching shut down the Swamp Bats. Vermont's five pitchers combined to give up just five hits while striking out eleven. Keene's lone run came in the top of the eighth after a Carter Mathison (Indiana) single.
Despite giving up seven runs, the Swamp Bats also limited the Mountaineers to just five hits. However, Keene walked seven Vermont batters, allowing the Mountaineers to pull in front early and keep their lead.
Vermont looks to win its league high twenty-fifth game when it hosts Mystic (17-11) tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. Keene stays on the road and travels to Sanford to face the Mainers (13-15) today at 6:30 p.m.

W - Jared Kuryan 1-0 (Western New England): 6.0 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 4 BB, 3 K

McKenzie Stadium, Holyoke, Mass. - The Valley Blue Sox (15-15) crushed the North Adams SteepleCats (6-21) thanks to a seven-run inning.
After entering the third inning down one, Valley quickly took a large lead. The Blue Sox put on eight baserunners, seven of which would come around to score. RBI singles by Jevon Mason (Southeast Missouri St) and Chase Hanson (Hope International), a double off the bat of Ramon Jimenez (Boston College) and walks from Antonio Guerrero (Washington) and Damaurys Rodriguez (Bryant) helped Valley leave the third with a six-run advantage.
Valley didn't stop there, scoring six more runs in the next two innings. They added another in the fourth. A five-run fifth highlighted by a Jevon Mason double put the Blue Sox up twelve. Mason ended the night with a game-high four hits and four runs batted in.
North Adams took the early lead in the first inning through an Alex Lane (Bryant) single. Valley would score thirteen unanswered runs before the SteepleCats found themselves on the board again. RBIs from Alex Lane and Cesar Franco (Chipola) gave North Adams two in the sixth. Another Jevon Mason RBI single in the seventh tacked on the Blue Sox's fourteenth run of the night.
Valley has a chance to get over .500 when it travels to Danbury (12-18) at 6:30 p.m. today. North Adams heads to Newport to take on the Gulls (18-10) today at 4:30 p.m.

Cardines Field in Newport, R.I. - The Newport Gulls (18-10) defeated the North Shore Navigators (7-22) in a pitching-driven game.
Runs were scarce at Cardines Field on Monday night, so a bigger inning meant a lot more. When the Gulls had men on second and third base, Slate Alford (Mississippi State) looked to take advantage. He did so by lacing a line drive in the right-center field gap for a 2-run single.
The Gulls' pitching staff made sure to hold onto the lead for the remainder of the game. Cole Stasio (Baylor), Peter Sakellaris (Virginia Tech), Chase Renner, Garrett Crowley (Texas Tech), Liam LeVangie combined for nine innings with no earned runs, 13 strikeouts, and three walks.
Each of the other two runs scored in the game were scored via an error.
The Gulls will have a doubleheader today against the North Adams SteepleCats that starts at 4:30 p.m. The Navigators will stay on the road for a 6 p.m. matchup against the Winnipesaukee Muskrats.
Mystic Schooners 3 - Martha's Vineyard 1
W - Matthew Nunan 1-1 (Boston College): 5.0 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 4 K
L - Case Matter 0-3 (Washington): 4.0 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
S - Ben Gorski 2 (Rutgers New Brunswick): 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
The Shark Tank in Oak Bluffs, MA - The Mystic Schooners (17-11) defeated the Martha's Vineyard Sharks (15-13) in a game of pitching.
Mystic's Anthony Donofrio (Quinnipiac) led the game off with a double. Then, Kevin Ferrer (Connecticut) chopped a soft ground ball to the third baseman. He faked a throw to first base and attempted to throw Donofrio out at third base. It went into left field and allowed Donofrio to score. Donofrio also reached base to lead off the third inning, and eventually came around to score on a balk. The Sharks responded in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run off the bat of Cabot Maher (Villanova). The next and final run of the game was scored off another error.
The Schooners will stay on the road for a 6:30 p.m. matchup today with the Ocean State Waves. The Sharks will have the day off today before going on the road to face the North Shore Navigators tomorrow at 12:05 p.m.
