SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Newport outfielder Colton Ledbetter (Samford) and Newport left-hander Ryan Ginther (Vanderbilt) have been named the New England Collegiate Baseball League's (NECBL) Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, for the fifth week in the 2022 regular season.
Ledbetter dominated this week for the Gulls. In six games and eighteen at bats, the outfielder batted .500, ranking second in the league, and had nine hits. Ledbetter also hit two home runs, which were tied for the lead this week, had seven RBIs, ranking second in the last seven days, scored five runs and walked four times. The Alabama native recorded a hit in every game, including two multi-hit contests. Ledbetter proved to be Newport's only source of offense against Bristol on July 7, going two for three with two RBIs. The next day, Ledbetter went three for four with a homer, two RBIs and three runs scored against Winnipesaukee. For the season, the Gull has a .365 average with thirty-five hits, twenty-eight RBIs, twenty-four runs scored, eight home runs and eighteen walks.
During his sophomore season at Samford, Ledbetter batted .318 with fifty-seven RBIs, sixteen homers and fifty-one runs in 211 at bats.
Ginther, another Newport Gull, had a perfect outing in his one start this week. The left-hander pitched six scoreless innings without allowing a baserunner against Winnipesaukee on July 8.
