Tennessee Valley Raptors News Release
HUNTSVILLE, AL - Tennessee Valley Viper head coach, Kevin Guy, announced today the assigning of former Viper defensive specialist, David "The Destroyer" Knott.
"Picking up David gives us a lot of options," Guy said. "We will bring him in this week and see how he fits into our system and then make a decision toward the end of the week. If everything works out, he should really help our football team."
Knott was named second team all-af2 in 2000 with the Vipers and recorded 84.5 tackles, four tackles-for-loss for seven yards, nine interceptions, 36 pass breakups and two forced fumbles. He added 29 tackles, 18 solo, three pass break ups and one fumble recovery in three playoff games. He returned one interception for a touchdown and was the captain of the Viper defense. He intercepted two passes against Greensboro and at Norfolk. He is second in Viper history with nine interceptions, trailing only Kelly Snell.
He spent the 2001 season with the Birmingham ThunderBolts of the XFL and was in camp in the Canadian Football League earlier this season.
He played in 17 games, starting eight at Ole Miss and recorded 78 tackles, 42 solo, six tackles-for-loss for 12 yards, four passes broken up and one interception. He signed as a free agent with the Detroit Lions out of college.
